Description

This very fine Amazon was purchased second-hand by the current owner on June 11, 1968, at Biva in Stockholm. At that time, the car had one previous owner, a hairdressing depot in Helsingborg. The car had been driven 60,000 km and the price was 9,900 kronor. Since then, the current owner has owned and used the car. The car has now been driven over 270,000 km in Stockholm and Södermanland and underwent a complete restoration to original condition starting in 2019. Photos and documentation of the restoration are included with the car. Tax receipts, inspection reports, and curiosities (e.g., all service invoices), as well as the PV guarantee, instruction manual, and ration coupons from the first fuel crisis, are also included. The car has always passed inspections by the Swedish vehicle inspection authority and has never been involved in an accident.

The front seats and rear seat are in excellent and intact condition. The instrument panel, door panels, headliner, and carpets are also in very good shape. The entire interior is original.

Professionally repainted to a high standard. The bodywork is straight and clean. Even underneath, the car looks like new. There is a dent on the right side of the fuel tank, but the tank is tight and in good condition otherwise, see picture. Very nice roof rack. Tires with good tread depth.

  • General condition:

An Amazon that looks almost as it did when it stood in the showroom in 1965. Very well restored and well-maintained car. Ready to drive and MOT exempt enthusiast car.

Facts about the model

The Volvo Amazon was launched as the successor to the successful PV 444 and was significantly more modern in comparison, not least due to its 1950s design (especially inspired by the split grille from Imperial) with a pontoon body and four-door version. The Amazon came in October 1961 as a two-door version and in February 1962 as a five-door version (estate). The man behind the design was Jan Wilsgaard. Volvo’s commitment to safety was high even back then, and the Amazon came with seat belt mounts as standard equipment from its debut. In 1959, the Volvo Amazon became the first mass-produced car in the world to feature three-point seat belts in the front seats as standard equipment, but the model had been prepared for three-point belts as early as 1957, which could then be obtained as optional equipment.
