"In a good basic condition, and there was an enormous effort made once to save this car from being lost as a forest wreck."

Description

It was retrieved from a forest slope in Lycksele in 1981. At that time, a birch tree was growing through the floor - or what was left of it. The car was essentially a forest wreck. A complete restoration took place over the next two years. A lot of sheet metal work was done - the floor and inner fenders were rebuilt from almost nothing. A new engine of the same type as the car was acquired. The doors had held up quite well and only needed repairs at the bottom. It was then used as a daily driver for several years, so an engine heater and seat belts were installed. Later, the car was used more as an enthusiast vehicle and has subsequently been used more and more sporadically. A lot of parts that have been collected over the years are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Technically solid and reliable. Neat engine compartment. The air filter is not original but comes from a Volvo Duett. It has an engine heater and an outlet for a cabin heater. It has a stainless steel exhaust system, and the water pump and master brake cylinder were replaced in 2023.

  • Interior condition:

The upholstery was done in the early eighties and still looks good. The sound system includes a hidden cassette player, speakers in the door, and a homemade center console. Originally, it was meant to conceal the odometer for the mileage tax, a requirement for diesel cars until 1974. Since then, it has been a storage compartment and can be easily removed. Seat belts were retrofitted, roll belts from a Volvo. In 2004, a new headliner was sewn and installed.

  • Exterior condition:

When the car was renovated, a color closely resembling the original was chosen, but it comes from VAZ. There are some blisters and crackling. The Model 180 didn’t have the elegant chrome strips on the body sides like the 219 and 220. However, these are not original but entirely handmade in aluminum. A work of the owner’s father, who was a blacksmith. It also has 14” rims with slightly newer hubcaps.

  • General condition:

A well-functioning car with charm and a good overall impression. There are deviations from the original, but these are perceived more as a cohesive part of the car. This was often the approach taken during renovations at that time.
