A "Gold buggy" that is turning 50 years old this year and is in a nice, usable condition, celebrating with an exemption from inspection/MOT and perhaps even something tasteful from its owner's bakery.

Description

A beautiful Swedish sold 1303 model in Maya Gold, delivered new in September 1973 and mostly driven in Skåne in recent years. The present owner has owned the car for almost ten years, and while its exterior suggests it was used for the owner's bakery and pastry business, it has been more of a cool accessory than a bread delivery vehicle. Unfortunately, the seller is only selling because the business is being sold and there is no extra garage space. The car will be delivered with a new inspection/MOT and, because it is 50 years old, will be exempt from future inspections.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Mechanically, the engine and gearbox feel as they should on these cars; one is pleasantly surprised by the fine torque of the air-cooled, 50-horsepower boxer engine and the easily manoeuvrable gearbox. The brakes and chassis also feel sturdy and robust.

  • Interior condition:

The interior has original upholstery with normal wear and tear for its age. The rubber mats are in good condition, with some surface rust under the pedals. The headliner and door panels are fresh, and the sunroof appears to be watertight with good functionality.

  • Exterior condition:

Because of the excessive humidity during photography, the exterior has some moisture on the windows and paint in several of the photographs. It has been repainted, with minor workshop repairs to the right rear wheel arch/sill and right B-pillar. The original wheels and tires are in good shape.

The company decals can be easily removed with some heat.

  • General condition:

Overall, this model looks particularly good in the gold metallic colour, and this car is in a representative and user-friendly usable condition.

Facts about the model

The 1303 model was a further development of its predecessor, the VW 1302, and became the final version of the Volkswagen Typ 1 (Beetle). It had a completely new look with a more modern and streamlined design compared to previous models. The popularity of the car was due to its affordability, high reliability, and easy driving. The Volkswagen 1303 was and still is attractive among enthusiasts, and has gained many new younger followers, something that other brand subcultures look at with envious wonder.
