"A well-built and well-renovated car with fantastic attention to detail."

Description

This French luxury car was likely sold new in Norway. Its Swedish history begins in the 1950s at a scrapyard in Svinesund. The renovation process involved extensive work on the body, which was done with great skill and expertise down to the ash frame. The interior was upholstered in brown leather following the original design. Originally painted in a gray color, the car was repainted with two shades of green during its restoration in the 1970s. The painting job was professionally done and has held up well over the years. A new convertible top was sewn on to the restored original frame, complete with detachable side panels. The 18-horsepower engine has been renovated once again since the major restoration. Model X31 was produced in just over 1400 examples, and today there may be only ten left in the world.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car has a four-cylinder engine and a four-speed segment gearbox, with an electric starter operated by a pedal on the floor. There are no technical issues with the car. It has been upgraded to a 12V electrical system with a battery hidden in the footstep box. Modern rear lights with turn signals have been discreetly installed, and the electrical system has been updated with wiring, fuses, and relays under the dashboard. The temperature gauge on the radiator is not original. The ignition has a temporary solution with a string.

  • Interior condition:

A solidly executed work in leather according to the original template. The mats are finished with good precision, but may be made of a somewhat modern material. All wooden elements, instruments, and details are in excellent condition. The convertible top is also in very good condition and is easy to raise and lower.

  • Exterior condition:

Very nice in paint which also highlights the brass details of the car. There are some cracks on the hood near its hinges. It's inevitable that it happens in that area. The brass details are exquisite and slightly aged but easily polished. In the back, there is a decorative wooden trunk with exquisite craftsmanship. The wheels are in the correct style with wooden spokes but not entirely accurate for the model - they come from a similar car. The brass rearview mirror with beveled glass also comes from another vehicle from the same period.

  • General condition:

A typical car of its time. Panhard & Levassor were pioneers in standardizing large-scale car manufacturing as early as the 1890s. These were well-built and sturdy cars, and this one is no exception. Relatively easy to handle and conventional for its time.
