"A pleasant and well-functioning car in a beautifully worn original condition, in the popular color combination of Lincoln Green with a Bronze interior."

Description

This car was imported to Sweden from Germany in 1991 and has had eight owners here. The current owner purchased the car in November of last year. During the winter, they addressed the fuel pump issue and performed a service that included installing new ignition components and refurbishing the carburetor. Additionally, the exhaust system has been recently replaced. The car is now roadworthy and ready for some tough adventures.

The car starts easily and runs well. All functions appear to be in good working order and function properly. An added bonus on this vehicle is the overdrive, which is also working well.

The interior is in original condition but shows some wear, particularly on the driver's seat cushion. The roof has some release. The original AC system is not in use, with the compressor removed, but the rest of the equipment is still present.

Facts about the model

Already in the 1950s, Rover had plans for and even built prototypes of a more car-like and comfortable version of its rugged off-road vehicle, the Land Rover. However, it wasn't until 1966 that development work on the Range Rover began, inspired by the success of American off-road vehicles like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wagoneer. The Range Rover was introduced in the summer of 1970. Similar to the Land Rover, the new model featured solid axles, a separate chassis, and outer body panels made of aluminum, except for the hood and the lower part of the two-piece tailgate. However, the Range Rover had coil springs, disc brakes all around, and permanent four-wheel drive with high and low gears. The engine was the aluminum V8 that Rover had acquired from Buick and had just started using in the large P5 sedan. While the car was both fast and comfortable on the highway with its V8 engine and long suspension travel, it could also navigate through rough terrain just like the Land Rover. The interior was simple, with vinyl upholstery and rubber floor mats that could be hosed down after off-road driving. Rover had initially envisioned landed gentry and other landowners as the main customer group, but the Range Rover also appealed to urban dwellers, and soon the company had to significantly increase production as demand far exceeded supply.
During the turbulent 1970s, British Leyland did not further develop their successful model. This opened the door for external manufacturers, such as Swiss company Monteverdi, to create their own versions with four doors and more luxury features. It wasn't until 1981 that Range Rover introduced its own four-door variant. In 1982, an automatic transmission became available as an option, and the following year, the manual gearbox received a fifth gear. Range Rover's potential as a luxury vehicle was also realized, with various special editions featuring leather upholstery and thick carpets. The most long-lasting of these was the Vogue version, which remained the flagship model of the Range Rover series for many years.
