"A direct and clear well-maintained feeling, a car to feel safe with despite the historically obvious risks of the extensive electronics of the past."

Description

It was delivered new to its first owner in September 1988, and it's the previous owner from 2018-2022 who has been extra careful and thoughtful with a small notebook where all actions are recorded. He optimized the car and ensured its functions; everything is noted. The goal was to have a reliable enthusiast car to be able to drive smoothly to the continent without worrying about unexpected stops. The measures include, among other things, a conversion of the air conditioning to modern means and a rebuild of an ambitious but unreliable air suspension at the back to a conventional mechanical setup.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Smooth classical straight six engine character and good gliding sensation in the gearbox. Heavy feeling on the road and good chassis without noise or clunk. An ABS warning text on the display is annoying, but according to reports, it should not result in a inspection remark. However, the ABS function of the brakes is unclear.

  • Interior condition:

The Daimler models are the best equipped XJ40s in terms of interior, and this particular one has everything one would expect and also features a nicely matching dark red leather interior against the outer dark blue-gray metallic paint. The wood trim has held up well, with only a small crack near the gear shift. The new headliner has good resilience.

  • Exterior condition:

A well-maintained exterior with no remarks. Undamaged original rims with good Vredestein tires.

  • General condition:

Relatively discreet and reasonably priced British classic in a well-maintained condition with a conscious thought of function, pleasure, and preserved charm. And it's rare, the more luxurious Daimler version was not produced in many examples.

The final interpretation and production of the XJ model, which was first introduced in 1975. Furthermore, this version is its most luxurious, known as the Daimler. XJ40 is considered by many to be the last true Jaguar. After that, it was time for Ford, Tata, and a different era. However, the brand still exists.
