"Lady-owned for the past 37 years, this Beetle has been a cherished family car, touring Europe and mainly enjoyed during the summer months. Recently recommissioned with a new fuel pump, it is now running well. A solid, honest car supplied with an extensive history file."

Description

Swedish-supplied from new by Sundin Bilar in 1972, this 1302 LS Cabriolet has had just nine owners. The current lady owner purchased the car in 1988 and has cherished it for over 37 years, using it mainly as a summer car for touring Sweden and Europe. A true VW enthusiast, she has carefully preserved the car and accumulated an extensive history file including service books, owner's manuals, receipts and invoices.

The Beetle was last inspected in 2018 and remained in regular use until late 2019. Due to Covid and the owner's time spent between Sweden and the UK, it was then dry-stored in a garage. The convertible hood was replaced in 2019, while the original frame and padding were retained, resulting in an excellent fit and original appearance.

Following its arrival at our depot, the fuel system was inspected, a new fuel pump fitted, and the car given a general mechanical check. It now starts easily, runs well and drives nicely with good brakes, thanks in part to its dry storage. the car is inspection-exempt for life.

The engine bay is clean and tidy and includes a newly fitted carburettor, with the original carburettor supplied. The body is solid, with only a few small blisters, minor touch-ups and some older repairs around the front suspension mounting area. The underbody is exceptionally clean with no significant rust issues. The paint has faded over time but would respond well to a professional machine polish, bringing back much of its original shine.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Now back up and running after fitting a new fuel pump, the car is mechanically in good order. It starts easily, benefits from a minute to warm up, and has been driven approximately 5 km without any issues. It would benefit from an oil service and a minor tune-up. It sits on colour-coded steel wheels in good condition, fitted with older but usable tyres. The odometer shows 161,375 km, supported by previous inspection reports and documentation confirming the mileage.

  • Interior condition

Original black interior is clean and tidy, featuring well-preserved vinyl front and rear seats with only minor marks and scuffs on the rear seat panels. The headliner, door cards, carpets and rubber mats are all in good condition. The storage pockets on the front door panels have become slightly baggy with age. The dashboard is in good order with working gauges and the original radio/cassette player still functioning. There are a few small paint chips on the glovebox lid. Overall, the interior presents well and would benefit only from a thorough clean and reconditioning to look even better.

  • Exterior condition

A good, presentable and honest Beetle that would benefit greatly from a professional machine polish, as the paint has become dull with age. The bodywork is straight and solid, with a few small paint blisters around the headlight areas and along a couple of wing seams. There are also a handful of minor touched-up stone chips and blemishes (see pictures), all of which are cosmetic and easily addressed. The underbody is exceptionally clean and solid, with no rust issues around the spare wheel well or battery tray. The chrome trim is bright throughout, with only a small dent in the rear bumper. The convertible hood is in excellent condition, fits well and shows no signs of damage

  • General condition

This Volkswagen Beetle has clearly been cared for with great dedication by its long-term owner and presents as a genuine, honest example, supported by extensive documentation and history. With only a few minor items remaining to be addressed, it is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
