Description

This Mercedes comes with an extensive history file and a large collection of original documentation. From the paperwork, much of it in German, it appears the car was owned by Mr. Lieber of Hannover from at least the early 1980s. The records also suggest it underwent a comprehensive restoration around 20 years ago, which has stood the test of time remarkably well.

The car was later offered for sale by a classic car specialist in the Netherlands, where the current owner purchased it in 2023. Having searched extensively for the right example, he chose this car purely for its outstanding condition and because it was finished in the desirable factory Medium Green (DB 229). Since being imported and registered in Sweden in 2023, it has been enjoyed as a summer car and driven sparingly in good weather.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

A well-kept example with an exceptionally clean engine bay. Still running on its original 6-volt electrical system, the current battery would ideally benefit from replacement. The engine starts easily with a jump pack and runs smoothly with a stable idle. On the road, it is easy to drive with a smooth gearbox, light clutch, effective brakes and reassuringly stable handling. It sits on a smart set of steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and older tyres in good condition. Apart from fitting a new battery, the car is ready to be driven and enjoyed.

  • Interior condition

Interior is exceptionally clean and tidy, trimmed in its original grey cloth upholstery. The seats are in very good condition, with only a small tear on the driver's seat outer bolster, a tiny hole on the top edge that is barely noticeable, and a small mark on the rear seat. The headliner, door cards, interior panels and original rubber flooring all present well.

The dashboard is clean and undamaged, with all gauges and instrumentation functioning correctly. It is also fitted with an auxiliary oil pressure gauge and additional indicator lights, a period requirement for cars registered in Germany.

  • Exterior condition

A highly presentable example with straight, undamaged bodywork and no notable rust issues, including underneath where the car remains exceptionally clean. The paintwork is bright and glossy, with only a few small touch-ups as shown in the pictures and some light washing scratches that should improve considerably with a professional polish.

The chrome trim and exterior details are clean and bright, and the car is also fitted with a tow bar. The boot compartment is neat and tidy, complete with a spare wheel and original toolkit.

  • General condition

This is a car that has clearly been cherished throughout its life. Considering it is now over 70 years old, it remains in wonderful condition and is exceptionally user-friendly to drive. While many surviving examples have become museum pieces, this one is ready to be driven, enjoyed and proudly shown at classic car events from day one.
