Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car has been fitted with a newly built fuel tank according to the original specification, however the gauge is not connected so the fuel meter is not in operation. Spark plugs replaced. Carburettor factory reset, throttle plates adjusted according to instruction manual, needles cleaned and throttle shaft re-sleeved. Buick straight-eights are renowned for quiet and smooth running, and this one performs exemplarily. Starts easily, gearbox shifts smoothly. Brakes operate well and evenly. Mechanically in good condition - however there are some squeaks and rattles, mostly due to weatherstripping, rubber components and similar items being old or missing. Installing new weatherstripping to doors and windows will increase comfort a notch or two.

  • Interior condition

Here sits an upholstery of older design in a galon weave. Originally this car is believed to have had a grey-striped fabric interior. Upholstery complete, door panels in good condition but not entirely correct. Headliner missing, glass, front windows in particular have become slightly yellowed at the edges. The upper part of the rear seat shows sun damage, indicating that this upholstery has been in place for quite some time.

  • Exterior condition

The bodywork has sustained minor dings over the years, with some older filler visible on a rear fender, but fundamentally the body is sound with no obvious repairs apparent. Surface rust is present in places, and in a few spots in the engine bay and trunk it has penetrated slightly, though nothing requiring attention. Front bumper from a Roadmaster. The undercarriage has been wire-brushed clean and treated with linseed oil.

  • General condition

Clearly a fine and remarkable car that still possesses dignity and a wonderfully almost untouched condition that is rarely seen today. A kind of fundamental charm. There is room for certain improvements for enhanced driving comfort and a few details to sort out. Otherwise, it functions exactly as it is.
