"A well-sorted car in well-restored condition, offering reliable performance and enjoyable driving."

Description

Approximately four years ago, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration. The body was professionally repaired where required before being repainted to a high standard, with excellent results. The work was carried out with great care, and today the car presents in exceptionally well-maintained and attractive condition.

As part of the restoration, the front fenders and all rubber seals were replaced. The chrome trim on the doors and side moldings was also renewed, and together with the newly installed running boards, these improvements give the car a fresh and well-finished appearance. The braking system was also inspected, serviced, and fitted with new components where required.

Since the restoration, the car has been used only sparingly, primarily for short leisure drives, classic car gatherings, and motoring events. This limited use has helped preserve the car in the excellent condition in which it is presented today. A selection of supporting documentation, including invoices and inspection records, accompanies the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and performs well, with the engine and drivetrain operating as they should. The braking system functions properly.

  • Interior condition

The interior shows signs of wear but remains functional, as shown in the photos. The door panels are in better condition than the rest of the cabin. The trim on the C-pillars and beneath the rear window shows more noticeable wear, and the dashboard is also in fair condition with visible age-related deterioration (see photos).

  • Exterior condition

The car benefits from a professionally applied paint finish of a high standard. The underside appears to be in good, restored condition. There are a few minor blemishes on the front bumper, as shown in the photos.

  • General condition

A charming, road-ready classic in good driver-quality condition, complemented by an excellent paint finish. The interior would benefit from some refurbishment and attention to bring the car to an even higher overall standard.

Facts about the model

Much has been written about the history of the Volkswagen Beetle—from the project's origins in the 1930s, through the British Army's role in restarting production after the Second World War, to the arrival of the first cars in Sweden via Scania-Vabis in 1948. Instead, we'll fast-forward to the early 1970s.

By this time, the later versions of the Volkswagen Type 1 had become progressively more powerful, gained increased luggage capacity, and featured contemporary interior improvements aimed at enhancing safety, such as integrated headrests.

For the 1971 model year, Volkswagen introduced the 1302, powered by the 1.6-litre engine producing 50 horsepower, replacing the discontinued 1500 model. As the new flagship version, the 1302 featured MacPherson strut front suspension, which allowed for a larger front luggage compartment, along with an Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) setup. These upgrades significantly improved both ride comfort and handling.

At the same time, Volkswagen continued to offer the 1300 model as the entry-level version. Equipped with the familiar 44-horsepower engine, it retained the traditional front suspension and classic Beetle styling. The simpler model did, however, receive the same engine lid as the 1302. While most buyers opted for the new range-topping 1302, the traditional 1300 remained a popular choice in its own right.
