Description
This Mercedes, manufactured in October 1971, was purchased by Frits Bernats in 1990. He began restoring the car shortly thereafter in his Mercedes workshop, Bernats Bil AB. Once the restoration was completed, the car was primarily used as a summer car. The Mercedes covered approximately 10,000 kilometers between 1990 and 2003, during which time it was also repainted. The next owner, also a Mercedes enthusiast, bought the car in 2003 and drove it only 9,000 kilometers until 2022, when it came into the hands of the current owner. The car is insured by the MHRF and runs very well in both engine and transmission. The interior currently in the car was the last one Mercedes-Benz had on the shelf in 1990 and is in excellent condition. The car has its original wheels and spare tire. A black hardtop in very good condition is included with the car. Detailed receipts and analog photo documentation of the restoration are also included. Historical records from the National Archives between 1976 and 1993, along with a binder containing facts and curiosities about the Mercedes-Benz 350 SL, accompany the car.

Mechanical condition
Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. The braking system functions as it should. Lockable fuel cap. Two keys. Clock, function uncertain.

Interior condition
The interior is in excellent and intact condition. There’s not much to criticize—it’s in fantastic shape.

Exterior condition
Professionally repainted some years ago. The paint is fine and glossy but has some blisters, mainly on the sides of the body—see pictures. Chrome and wheels are in very good condition. Tires have good tread depth. The soft top and hardtop are in very good condition. There is a small damage in the hardtop’s headliner—see picture.

General condition
A pleasant, very well-maintained, and road-ready Mercedes 350 SL in excellent condition. As far as I can assess, it requires no immediate attention and can be enjoyed just as it is this summer.

“The model marked a significant step forward for Mercedes when it was introduced in April 1971. The new SL was built with future safety requirements for the American market in mind and designed under the leadership of Karl Wilfert, Mercedes’ head of design. The newcomer, the 350 SL, was the same size but nearly 400 kg heavier than the 230 SL it replaced. Part of the extra weight came from the V8 engine, but much was also due to the more robust body structure. The windshield frame was extremely strong to eliminate the need for a roll bar.”

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
- For items that have not been collected within 14 days storage costs may be charged.
