Mechanical condition
The car runs excellently and shifts smoothly once warm. It has recently received a recommissioning service. The electric soft top works perfectly. The AC does not cool. The fuel gauge does not work.

Interior condition
The interior is in very good condition with normal wear for the mileage. A couple of seams on the seats have been repaired. There is occasionally a slight rattle from the interior light in the windshield frame.

Exterior condition
The paintwork is in excellent condition, with only a few minor stone chips. The car is fitted with good tires on the original alloy wheels. Both the soft top and the hardtop are in very good condition.

Facts about the model
The new SL model was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1988 and entered production in May the same year. Designed by Bruno Sacco, its first model year was 1989, and production continued through the 2002 model year.
As was typical with every new Mercedes-Benz generation, the R129 represented a significant leap forward. In addition to reviving styling cues from the iconic Gullwing, Mercedes set out to lead the industry in advanced technology and exclusive design. The company also emphasized how the new SL combined its heritage of high-performance roadsters, luxurious coupés, and refined sedans into a single model.
What had previously seemed impossible was now a reality: a beautifully styled sports car offering outstanding performance and comfort while meeting the highest safety standards. As Mercedes proudly stated in the original sales brochure: "Here, tradition is combined with innovation. Safety with comfort. All at an exceptionally high—indeed incomparable—level."
The range initially consisted of the 300 SL-24 and the 500 SL. Over the years, the R129 was offered with a wide variety of engines, including inline-six, V6, V8, and V12 powerplants. A facelift arrived for the 1994 model year, followed by further updates in 1996 and a more comprehensive facelift for the 1999 model year. Mercedes continued to introduce both minor and major technical improvements each year until production ended in 2002, when the R230 successor was launched.
In total, 213,089 examples of the R129 were produced.

- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
