Description

We know very little about this early Opel Kadett, but it's said to have had two regular users and a total of six owners. The first owner used the car until his passing, after which it was inherited and then sold to the second user. That user drove the car sparingly for 25 years.

The car passed inspection in 2022 without any remarks and is now roadworthy. The Opel has a few rust spots here and there on the body. The gear lever needs attention, as the rubber bushing at the upper joint near the floor has disintegrated and should be replaced. Otherwise, the gearbox works as it should.

One of the sun visors is missing its small mounting pin. The tires have some dry cracking, but not bad enough to cause any issues during the inspection—though it might be wise to take a closer look at them.

The engine runs quietly and smoothly, and it starts easily, but could use a check-up and service. As far as I can tell, the car still wears its original paint, which could probably regain some shine with a polish.

  • Interior condition:

The original interior is in used condition with minor damage—see photos. The headliner is in good shape.

Facts about the model

Opel first used the name "Kadett" before World War II—initially in 1936. However, production of the Kadett was halted during the war, and it wasn't until 1962 that the model was revived. The new Kadett A then became the first post-war Kadett.

At this time, Opel was owned by American company General Motors, which aimed to compete with the hugely successful Volkswagen Beetle (Type 1).
