Volkswagen Typ1 Bubbla 1200 Oval — 1954

The car underwent a professional renovation 20 years ago and remains in equally excellent condition. Additionally, it is equipped with many period-correct accessories and tasteful enhancements to details, making this car one of the most pleasant and finest '54 models in the country, we dare say.

Description

This car was owned by the first owner until 2001, residing in Sysslebäck in northern Värmland. The second owner, located north of Örebro, chose to fully restore the car, despite it being exceptionally well-preserved. They wanted it to be perfect. The sills and heat channels were replaced, and the entire car was painted in sections (see attached pictures from the restoration). All the details were either purchased or renovated, and a new interior was installed, including carpets, door panels, and upholstery in the original style. The car was painted in its original color, Texas Brown, which was one of the first metallic paints available on the VW Type 1 and was only offered on export models. To add a touch of luxury, the sides were painted in the same beige color that was available on the cabriolet models of that time, just below the molding. We believe it is a tasteful combination. The car has since received period-correct accessories and a nicer steering wheel, among other upgrades. Take a look at the pictures and enjoy. This is the most meticulously restored early Beetle we have ever seen (we estimate the restoration cost to be over 300,000 SEK, not including the labor).

When parts were replaced with different versions, the original parts were kept and will be included. The same goes for the license plates, which have been cleverly modified to have an older appearance, adding to the car's period-correct look. It is a highly restored car, with the engine and brakes also refurbished, making it a joy to drive. During the restoration, even the speedometer was renovated, and since everything was brought back to perfect condition or replaced, the odometer was reset to zero. After the restoration, the car has only been driven a little over 3000 km. Prior to the restoration, we estimate that the car had covered approximately 150 000-200 000 km considering its condition and other factors.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and runs smoothly. It rolls smoothly, brakes well, and the engine has a pleasing sound. It is a joy to drive.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is exquisitely crafted with high attention to detail in its original design. The carpets and upholstery are new and sourced from a top-quality German supplier, providing a perfect fit and finish. The overall result is a stunning interior that showcases the finest craftsmanship.

  • Exterior condition:

The body and paint are in excellent condition, showcasing a flawless exterior. The glass, chrome, and other exterior elements are also in top shape, without any remarks or issues.

  • General condition:

The overall impression is exceptional. This car has been meticulously cared for, leaving nothing to chance. If one desires a simpler appearance, it is easy to remove the accessories, as they have been installed without major modifications. However, the car is more intriguing as it is, as the equipment adds value and is tastefully and carefully assembled to enhance the overall impression. It is a super cool car in excellent condition. Additionally, with only four owners, complete documentation, and its original color, this car is one of the best collector Beetles one could imagine.

Facts about the model

In 1954, the Volkswagen 1200 received the coveted small oval rear window, which is highly sought after today. Another detail that sets the '54 models apart from later Volkswagen models is the exhaust system with a single tailpipe instead of two, as well as the heart-shaped small translucent brake light lenses positioned on top of the rear taillights.

The engine size was increased to 1,192 cc from the previous 1,131 cc, a new feature that was introduced in December 1953.

By 1954, production of the Volkswagen Type 1 had exceeded 200,000 units, with approximately 11,500 of them imported to Sweden. The following year, more than double the number of Volkswagen cars were imported and sold in the Swedish market. The Beetle became Sweden's best-selling car that year.
