"Meticulously restored to top condition over several years. It is in an outstanding state, both cosmetically and mechanically."

Description

The car was imported from England by Bengt Ason Holm, a well-known author and visual artist primarily focused on books about cars and old Gothenburg. The year was 1976. The current owner purchased the car from him in 1978 and subsequently embarked on a complete restoration. It took until 2017 for the car to be fully completed. However, a few minor details are still missing, such as a turn signal indicator, original jack, some tools, and locks for the rear side windows.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine, gearbox, and rear axle were renovated by The Austineers in England in 1996. They are fully functional and in excellent mechanical condition. The gearbox features four gears with synchronization on the third and fourth gears. However, a turn signal indicator is missing. Blinkers are integrated into the front and rear lights. Additionally, a new battery has been installed.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in excellent condition, with new upholstery, carpets, headliner, and door panels. The instrument panel and instruments have been finished to the highest standard. The car is equipped with a "smokers light," which refers to the small roof hatch commonly found in vintage vehicles.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork is in excellent condition, and the windows are original. The lamps and handles have been re-chromed, giving them a like-new appearance. The bumpers are made of polished stainless steel and are in pristine condition. Additionally, the car is equipped with a practical folding luggage rack at the rear.

  • General condition:

A charming and easy-to-maintain vintage car. The Austin Seven is a straightforward car to take care of, and the availability of spare parts is plentiful. It has been meticulously restored to top condition over several years.

Facts about the model

The significance of Austin Sevens to British transportation and industry cannot be overstated. They were produced between 1923 and 1939, with a total production of around 290,000 units. The range of variants was extensive, ranging from simple open cars, vans, and sports cars to the slightly more comfortable Ruby and Jewel models with four seats and a roof. This was the car that truly put Britain on wheels. They became popular for modification and competition. Alec Issigonis, the creator of the Morris Minor and Mini, began his career by modifying Austin Sevens. Colin Chapman's first racing cars were built on the Austin Seven chassis. Swallow Sidecar, a company that we now know as Jaguar, produced bodies for them.
