"A car that has spent many years in garages and barns without being used. Now, after 70 years, it has never really undergone a full restoration, but rather been maintained and brought back to life. The exact details of when, where, and how this was done are not fully clear, but the condition and experience are genuine, solid, and, most importantly, it is ready to drive and enjoy.l."

Description

Registered on January 1, 1953, and likely sold by AB Folke Ramer in Örebro, there is an emblem on the hood. It appears to have been in Närke, Sweden, for most of its life until the current owner purchased it in May 2021. In the registry, it is listed as a DS but should be an ES model. The previous owner had removed the engine and performed a mechanical overhaul, replacing brake hoses and inspecting electrical wiring, among other things. The current owner has used it as an enthusiast car but has improved the carpets and made minor enhancements. Otherwise, it has been driven without any issues. Now that the family has expanded, the owner is seeking a more family-friendly enthusiast car and is selling the PV 444. The original choke control and heating package are available but not connected. Several boxes of used parts, some new rubber components, and various documents and an instruction manual are included with the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It starts easily and runs decently, with most things appearing to work as they should. The choke is not connected, but with the help of the "hand throttle," it was easy to start, and once warmed up, there were no issues. The engine and brakes have been inspected by the previous owner.

  • Interior condition:

The original interior shows signs of wear, especially on the driver's seat backrest and the headliner. However, overall, it is in a charming and well-used condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The car features a nice paint job with some signs of aging, such as stone chips, cracking, small scratches, and dents. However, considering its age, it remains in a presentable condition. The glass, chrome, and rubber details are in good shape but also show signs of patina after 70 years. The wheels and tires are in good condition. The engine bay and luggage compartment are in a similar well-used and patinated condition.

  • General condition:

While not in showroom condition, this classic car retains its charm and patina, evoking emotions and appreciation wherever it goes—whether on the road, at a gas station, or wherever it may be. The overall presentation is consistent, and everything maintains that delightful well-used appearance. As a 70-year-old vehicle, it proudly carries its years and stands as a solid classic and a collector's item. This type of car is becoming increasingly popular—a rolling piece of Swedish automotive history and a cultural treasure.

Facts about the model

The PV 444 is a classic Volvo that has been extensively written about. It was first presented at Volvo's exhibition in the Royal Tennis Hall on September 1, 1944. Many anticipated that World War II would soon be over, and Volvo wanted to be ready when peace arrived. However, it wasn't until early 1947 that cars could begin to be delivered. Various obstacles and delays arose, especially due to the shortage of raw materials during and after the war. We have also read that Volvo initially sold the car at a loss since many orders were placed at the introductory price set in 1944, which quickly proved to be too low. Nevertheless, the wheels started turning, and the PV 444 hit our roads. Not only our roads, as Volvo also managed to establish exports with their new family car, primarily to neighboring countries but eventually to Europe, the United States, and the rest of the world. In total, 196,005 units were manufactured before production ceased. The new Amazon began selling in 1957, and the following year, the PV 444 was upgraded to the 544 model.
