"The current owner has invested time and money into the car, including new brakes, cleaning the fuel system, servicing, and new tires. The car runs and drives ok, but it requires some carburetor tuning to address occasional stalling at lower revs. Overall, it is almost ready for its new inspection."

Description

The current owner had the opportunity to purchase the Saab 96 from a gentleman residing in Jonköping. This individual had stored the car in his barn for a remarkable period of over 20 years. The car's most recent recorded inspection dates back to 1999, signifying that it was retired from active use not long after. The nameplate on the door indicates that the car was originally sold to an owner in Habo, a location near Jonköping.

However, the car's bodywork has not emerged unscathed from its time in the barn. Rust damage has taken its toll on various parts of the cars exterior, requiring attention and repair work to restore its original appearance and structural integrity. On a more positive note, the interior of the car has proven to be quite resilient, surviving the years of storage relatively well and remaining in good condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

After undergoing a comprehensive startup service, the only remaining task for the Saab 96 is a review and setup of the carburetor. Once this adjustment is made, the car will be prepared for its new inspection.

  • Interior condition:

The Saab 96 boasts a well-preserved and complete interior in remarkable condition. There are no major issues to report, and while there may be some sun bleaching, the headliner, dashboard, instrumentation, door cards, and carpets are in good shape.

  • Exterior condition:

The 1970s Saab 96, like many others, has rust issues on the lower body, doors, wings and sills. Replacement panels or welding repairs will be necessary to address the rust spots and dents.

  • General condition:

The Saab 96 is worth saving despite needing welding work and replacement body panels. Its running condition and well-preserved interior make it a worthwhile restoration project.
