Mechanical condition
Starts and runs reasonably well, though a bit temperamental at idle until warmed up. The automatic transmission, steering, brakes, and other mechanical components appear to function properly but would benefit from an inspection. The underside has not been checked on a lift, but the vital parts seem to be in decent condition.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in typical used condition for its age, with patina and various imperfections. The seats are relatively intact, and the carpets, door panels, and headliner are in good condition. The controls and instrumentation show wear consistent with age. Missing details include rubber seals, glovebox interior, and encapsulation/sound insulation, among other items.
-
Exterior condition
Newer paint with a glossy finish, though not in perfect condition. The glass, chrome, trim, and lighting components appear to be in typical used condition for the car's age. The wheels and tires are in good condition. The engine and trunk compartments show signs of wear, imperfections, and some rust indications. The trunk has been cleared out. Removable blue lights are mounted on the roof, not period-correct, and operate via a loose battery in the cabin.

General condition
By the time the 1970s arrived, American cars had almost disappeared from showrooms. The few that were still sold were often four-door sedans, frequently chosen for their durability, reliability, and signature American comfort. This car, apart from its unique paintwork, is in a drivable, usable condition that can be enjoyed as is or restored in parts or as a whole. Regardless, it remains a fine representative of its genre and era.

Facts about the model
The first generation (1959–1962) featured distinctive small, horizontal fins at both the front and rear and was offered as two- and four-door sedans and station wagons. The second generation (1963–1966) adopted a more restrained and streamlined design, with models including two- and four-door sedans, station wagons, and a two-door hardtop called the Signet. As a highlight, a convertible was also introduced.
For the 1967 model year, an even more minimalist design reflecting late 1960s trends was introduced. Available as two- and four-door sedans and two-door hardtops, this generation continued production until 1973. The fourth and final generation, designed for the 1970s, grew slightly in size and was available as a four-door sedan and a two-door hardtop.
The Valiant was manufactured in several countries, and in Sweden, ANA (later Saab-ANA from 1965) served as the importer. The first generation came exclusively with six-cylinder engines paired with either manual or automatic transmissions, while later models also offered V8 options.
In Sweden, the Valiant became a popular and relatively common police car. It was known for being robust, reliable, and suitable for police work thanks to its larger size and powerful engines. Police versions were equipped with numerous upgrades for demanding tasks, including reinforced suspension, improved shock absorbers, and various police-specific features such as emergency lights, sirens, and central locking for the rear seat. The trunk was equipped with additional gear, including bike racks, and a locking fuel cap was added as a precaution against sabotage.
Starting in 1966, front bench seats were replaced with individual seats sourced from the Saab Monte Carlo, and by the 1970s, seats from the Saab 99 were used. Between 1966 and 1974, Swedish police purchased 1,200 Valiants. However, after that era, standard patrol cars from the U.S. were no longer procured for Sweden, with the focus shifting to specialized vehicles, minibuses, and vans.
