"A tough stepside in a durable and practical condition."

Description

This tough Ford pickup was imported from California in 2008 and was already in fairly rust-free and good condition at the time. Reportedly, only about 6,600 units of this "big window" model were produced. When it arrived in Sweden in 2008, a complete restoration of the truck began. It was also lowered 3 inches at the front and 2 inches at the rear, with the leaf springs reshaped. The engine was bored and fitted with new pistons and bearings. The carburetor, alternator, radiator, and starter motor were also refurbished. The rear axle was restored as well and is equipped with a 3.07 limited-slip differential. The transmission was inspected but left untouched as it was in good condition. Bushings, joints, the braking system, and many other components were also renovated.

The original wheels were widened both inward and outward, and the tires, which were new in 2008, still have good tread depth. The truck bed is fitted with oak rails. The hood hinges have been partially restored, but the springs have lost their tension. The hood may need to be repainted as it doesn’t have the same "finish" as the rest of the paintwork. The paint job has a high-quality "garage paint" character, which suits the vehicle well, as modern paint jobs are often too shiny and "thick" to appeal to car enthusiasts. Slight color differences can be observed between the body panels, but this does not detract from the overall impression.

Since its restoration, the Ford has been used for cruising and has been driven less than 10,000 kilometers since then. Two sets of keys are included with the truck.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Runs well in both engine and drivetrain. The engine has been rebuilt, and the drivetrain has been inspected. The front suspension, rear suspension, and braking system have also been reviewed, with parts restored or replaced as needed. It lacks a cabin fan, as the car was imported from California where this was not part of the standard equipment. The stereo draws parasitic power through its memory.

  • Interior condition:

Very clean and tidy interior. The bench seat is in excellent condition. The headliner and door panels are also in very good condition. The instrument panel is intact and in great shape, featuring decals of "pin-up girls," which can likely be removed if desired.

  • Exterior condition:

Home-applied paint in good condition. The fitment of the body panels is decent but not perfect; see photos for details. The car’s chrome and glass are in good condition. The undercarriage is very appealing, well-maintained, and painted. The sealing strips are intact and soft. The truck bed is in good and intact condition. The cover for the cargo area can be removed without significant effort.

  • General condition:

A very well-restored car in excellent overall condition. Inspected and ready to drive.

Facts about the model

In 1953, Ford introduced its new generation of half-ton pickups, marking the first true modernization of the model since its debut in 1948. This redesign featured a longer hood and the iconic grille. It also introduced the new, safer cab with significantly more glass than before. Up until this point, the model was known as the F1 but was renamed the F100—a designation that has continued through to today’s models.

Most were sold with a straight-six engine (like the one described above), but the F100 was also available with a flathead V8, which was replaced in 1954 by the Y-block overhead-valve engine. 1954 was also the first year the F100 could be equipped with an automatic transmission.
