Description
The current owner carried out servicing, inspection, a general clean-up, and had the car roadworthy inspected. The car was originally intended as a learner driver vehicle for his daughter, but those plans had to change due to other wishes.
The most recent approved inspection was completed on 2025-11-27 after repairs to the ball joint, rear fog light, and rear brakes.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine, gearbox, brakes, and chassis feel tight and normal for the mileage. Easy to drive with five gears and modest performance, just as it should be for a small French car. The blower motor sounds bad after the long period of storage; it is easily accessible and should be straightforward to replace with a bit of research, either as a used or new part.
-
Interior condition
Unworn and well-preserved interior with sturdy, period-correct extra rubber floor mats, likely supplied by the Swedish importer Volvo. Nice headliner and door panels, with some wear around the driver’s door handle. A period-correct radio would suit the empty slot well, and a pair of matching speakers remain in the doors. The interior trim panel on the inside of the tailgate is missing, but the cover for the rear wiper motor is present.
-
Exterior condition
Original paint throughout except for the driver’s door, which was repainted in the early 1990s and finished in a period-correct spray filler, resulting in some paint bubbling. A couple of areas to keep an eye on are where the B-pillars meet the sills (see photos). Otherwise, the exterior plastic trim has been treated and cleaned, giving a pleasing overall appearance. New tyres on the original wheels.
-
General condition
An eighties small car in rarely preserved, road-ready condition. A kind of unpretentious youngtimer and today a collectible vehicle representing everyday motoring of its era.

Facts about the model
However, the second generation was based on a new platform derived from the larger Renault 9/11 models, making it wider, longer, and more spacious inside. The engines were mounted transversely, unlike the longitudinal layout of the first generation, all in order to maximize interior space.
In 1988, the Renault 5 was offered in several trim levels, ranging from basic versions such as the “Five” to sportier variants like the GTX and the turbocharged GT Turbo. The TS, with its 1.4-litre engine producing 58 hp, positioned itself as a mid-range option offering balanced performance, comfort, and fuel economy for a broad audience. Production of the Supercinq continued until 1996 in certain versions, despite its successor, the Renault Clio, having been launched as early as 1990.
