"A car that appears to have been in good condition throughout its entire lifespan."

Description

The current bought the car after it had been unused for many years in northern Sweden. It was in very good overall condition but needed some care and attention. The current owner has renovated the water pump, replaced all water hoses, starter relay, all rubber parts in the brake system. Oils have also been changed in the engine, gearbox, and rear axle. A new battery has also been installed. The car was inspected / MOT:ed in the summer of 2023.

Notable equipment includes a boxer engine, steering column gearshift, leather upholstery, wood dashboard, fold-out armrests in the backrests of the sofas, as well as on the inner panels of the front doors and on the outer seats in the rear seat. The front seat is adjustable with a chrome crank. Picnic table for rear-seat passengers. Several different gauges to keep track of both time and the engine's condition. There are also several small compartments that were intended to be ashtrays when the car was manufactured. A solid tool kit in a specially designed box in the trunk. The spare wheel is located under the trunk floor, which means there is plenty of space for luggage instead. Interior trunk lighting.

A lot of literature and documentation are included.

Articles about the Jowett have been published in Teknikens Värld in 1979 and recently in Klassiker issue 7, 2023. It has also been nominated as the candidate for the car of the year in Klassiker issue 1, 2024.

Facts about the model

Jowett Javelin was produced from 1947 to 1953 by Jowett Cars Ltd of Idle, near Bradford in England. Over the years, the model came in a total of five different versions, all available in De Luxe or Standard trim. Under the hood, it featured a compact four-cylinder aluminum boxer engine with overhead valves, with a displacement of 1,486 cc and equipped with dual Zenith carburetors, delivering 52 hp.

With its self-supporting body, front-engine layout, independent front suspension, and torsion bars all around, it was a highly advanced family car that received a lot of praise in the press for its performance and handling. This also translated into success in the rally competitions of the time. An early example won its class in the Monte Carlo Rally as early as 1949, and in 1952, a Javelin secured a class victory in the RAC Rally.
