"Final model year, nice example, pleasant history, and just a bit of finishing and assembly work remaining."

Description

It was registered in Sweden in 1963, possibly as a demo car at the general agent Förenade Bil in Malmö, but seems to have first been delivered to a customer in July 1964, then as a company car to Director C-A Ahltin at Djupafors Fabriks AB in Kallinge in Blekinge. The current owner's father initiated the Sparreholm Car Museum, and it has been in those collections since the mid-eighties. The last approved inspection was done in 2001.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily, runs well, and the gears feel good. The brakes require a high pedal pressure, and an overhaul of these is recommended before a new inspection. Otherwise, there's a good mechanical feel, but we haven't driven the car at higher speeds on the highway and therefore cannot assess directional stability and road behavior.

  • Interior condition

Leather interior in like-new condition, it may not be newly sewn, but it is at least not used. Needs some additional assembly and adjustment. The interior lining of the sunroof is loose and also needs to be mounted. The reason could be that the sunroof doesn't close properly

  • Exterior condition

Nice newer paint in original color, good chrome and glass. Older diagonal tires with good tread. The sunroof needs an adjustment; it doesn't close properly. The same goes for the hood; it also needs an adjustment to close smoothly in line with the body.

  • General condition

The final model year of the BMW model that almost capsized the company. It has significant historical importance for a BMW enthusiast. Beautifully and neatly restored, with a pleasant and slightly rough V8 rumble, coupled with a period-specific column shift.

Facts about the model

The model was nicknamed 'Baroque Angel' due to its bulbous and curvy body design and its extensive chrome ornamentation. It was an expensive car, and sales were slow in the Swedish market. In its final years, the car was sold under the model designation 3200 instead of the earlier 502.
