"A pleasant, robust model in a renovated condition."

Description

This car model, the Austin A35 Saloon, formerly nicknamed "Tie Knot" or "Meatball," is in a nice, renovated condition. It has been meticulously stripped to bare metal and repainted. The engine and drivetrain, as well as the braking system, have been overhauled by a previous owner. The interior shows some wear, with a crack in the fabric of the back seat, as seen in the picture. As of 2023, the car has passed inspection and is ready to drive. The A30/A35 was Austin's first car with a unibody design and was developed to compete with the Morris Minor. This is an opportunity to purchase a joyful driving car that is very popular for racing in its home country, England.

Facts about the model

The Austin A30 was manufactured between 1951 and 1956, and then with a modernized engine as the A35 until 1968. When customer deliveries began in May 1952, it was Austin's first car with a unibody design. The two-door version was added the following year, and a few years later, the estate version was introduced.

The A30 was the first to use BMC's four-cylinder A-series engine of 803 cc, which continued to be produced for nearly 50 years.

Regarding the performance of the new engine in the A35, from Staton Abbey's "The Book of the Austin A30 and A35" (1969, Pitman Press, p. 148):

"...The new cars were thoroughly proved by tests carried out on the German autobahnen, during which drivers of much larger cars were astonished to be passed by three small Austins which were being driven flat out all day, averaging
