"A top seller in the 1950s and 1960s."

Description

The body was in relatively good condition when the previous owner purchased the car, although some minor repairs had already been carried out. This led to the decision to go through and restore the entire car. Prior to the work, a great deal of time was spent stripping the body completely of paint and rust, both inside and out.

As for the drivetrain, the gearbox and rear axle were opened and flushed out and cleaned. Seals and gaskets were replaced with new ones. The engine’s rebuild status is unknown, but it runs quietly and smoothly.

The brake drums were machined and the braking system received new bonded brake linings, and the wheel cylinders have most likely been replaced. On the front suspension, everything that needed attention was addressed.

During the restoration, a new exhaust system was also fitted, and the car received new tires on blasted and painted wheels. Externally, the Austin was repainted in its original color, and the chrome details were polished and are in good condition.

The interior is overall in very nice condition. A few seams in the driver’s seat have come undone—see photo—and the carpets have been newly sewn in matching material. A pleasant and well-restored Austin that has scarcely been used since the restoration.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and drivetrain run well. Most of the car has been inspected or restored. Under braking, the car pulls slightly to one side, likely because it has been standing for a long time and has scarcely been used since the restoration was completed. One of the heater hoses is plugged and not connected to the heater valve—for unknown reasons.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in very good condition. A few seams have come undone on the driver’s seat cushion—see photo. The dashboard is nice and intact. Clean floor mats, and the headliner is also clean and intact.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice paintwork in good condition. There is a small dent on the left sill panel—see photo. The chrome is in good, bright condition. The underside of the car also appears to be in well-kept condition.

  • General condition:

An Austin A35 in well-restored condition. The car has been inspected and approved at the vehicle testing station and is therefore road-ready. It is recommended to check the brakes, as they pull slightly to one side.

Facts about the model

The Austin A30 was built between 1951 and 1956, and thereafter, with a modernized engine as the A35, all the way until 1968. When customer deliveries began in May 1952, this was Austin’s first car with a self-supporting (monocoque) body. The following year, the two-door version was introduced, and after another year or so, the estate version was added.

The A30 was the first to be fitted with BMC’s four-cylinder A-series engine of 803 cc, an engine that would go on to be produced for nearly 50 years.
