"The car needs someone to take care of it."

Description

This Fiat NSU was purchased by the current owner's brother in the spring of 2023, likely with the intention of restoring it later. He drove it around the streets of Stockholm during the summer and early autumn of that year. However, the brother fell ill in the autumn, and the car was left unused. After his passing, the current owner inherited his cars.

This car needs some attention. It is rusty, particularly at the rear wheel arches and in the trunk floor, but rust is also present at the front and on the fender edges. The sunroof is taped with duct tape and likely leaks water. The interior upholstery is somewhat stained. The engine runs on starter fluid (as the carburetor isn't receiving fuel despite the fuel gauge showing a full tank), and the oil pressure and charging lights turn off as they should. The fuel pump may be defective.

The car should be considered a restoration project and appears to be relatively untouched. It’s a fun and charming project for the Fiat enthusiast. Despite the issues mentioned, the car is permanently inspected. Some documentation from previous owners is included; see pictures for details.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car has not been test-driven on the road. The engine only ran on starter fluid during the photo session, possibly due to a defective fuel pump. The oil pressure and charging lights turn off when the engine is running.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in a worn and slightly dirty condition. The upholstery has a few small holes.

  • Exterior condition:

Worn paint with some damage, see photos. Chrome work is in less-than-ideal condition, see photos. There are scratches, small dents, and some rust, as shown in the photos.

  • General condition:

The Fiat has been inspected and approved for life by the vehicle inspection authority, but it should be considered a restoration project with everything that entails.

Facts about the model

NSU-Fiat, also known as Neckar, was a German licensed manufacturer of Fiat passenger car models.

NSU-Fiat was established in 1929 when Fiat took over all car manufacturing from NSU, which had fallen into financial difficulty. Fiat initially continued producing NSU's models at the factory they had acquired in Heilbronn but later transitioned to licensed production of Fiat’s own models. Among the most notable were the Fiat Topolino and Fiat Balilla.

When NSU resumed manufacturing passenger cars, a legal dispute led the company to change its name to Neckar in 1957. Production continued until 1971, featuring licensed versions of models such as the Neckar Weinsberg (Fiat 500) and Neckar Jagst (Fiat 600).
