Description
This car was imported by a group of friends in June 2004. They bought 5 of them and sold some further in Sweden. One of these Golfs ended up with a man outside Uppsala. He used the car for many years and then the car was put out of service in December 2013. The man decided to sell the car and it then ended up in the hands of the current owner in 2016. The Golf was overhauled and got new valve guides and crankshaft bearings. The car was approved at the vehicle inspection on 20161019 with 21,492 kilometers on the odometer. It also received a new left front fender. The front fender, front, hood, moose grid, and spare wheel arch were repainted. A friend of the owner manufactured new running boards which he copied after a pair of rusty ones the owner got with the purchase. In 2019, the car got new thicker tires on newly painted rims. Much of the exhaust system has been replaced. Over the years with the current owner, the car has participated in various gatherings such as meetings at Skokloster, Wenngarn, Ramsele, breakfast clubs, and more. Many spare parts such as a new starter motor, new extra lights, new Bilstein shock absorbers, extra lights, square and round, used strut brace, rear lights, Blaupunkt CD changer, and two car stereos from VW are included with the car. The car has now traveled approximately 253 000 kilometers.

Runs well in engine and drivetrain. The brakes are even and effective. New exhaust system.

Interior condition
The interior is in a worn condition. The fabric on the driver's seat has some holes, see pictures. Worn mats with dirt stains. Nothing abnormal for a car that has traveled 250 000 kilometers.

Exterior condition
There is some rust here and there. The car is partially repainted. A sunroof was an optional extra and this Golf is equipped with one. It appears to have shrunk as there are gaps on both sides of it, see pictures. Aluminum rims with new tires in good condition.

General condition
The condition of the Golf corresponds to the odometer reading, but the car has potential for improvement and can definitely be enhanced. A nice and unusual model of Golf.

Facts about the model
Production of the Golf Country started in April 1990. The Golf was placed on a subframe, and its ground clearance was raised to a full 21 centimeters. Skid plates and protective rails were mounted at the front and back, and the package also included new springs and dampers. The body was also equipped with fender edges and sills in durable plastic, and the cherry on top was the spare wheel on the tailgate.
Although the Golf Country wasn't the first to create this type of vehicle, the concept of SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) had been used since the 1970s, primarily for larger cars like the Jeep Cherokee, Ford Bronco, Range Rover, and similar models. What made the Golf Country unique was that it was a small car. However, the price significantly dampened demand. Therefore, in July 1990, a more basic model was introduced - the Golf Country Allround. Some of the rather generous standard equipment was removed. The Allround was priced below the 32,000 Deutsche Mark mark, but sales were still slow, with only 160 Allround models sold. So, they shifted strategy and went all out with the Golf Country Chrome edition. A total of 558 Chrome edition units were sold, and by the time production stopped in October 1991, a total of 7,735 Golf Countrys had been made. But before production ended, one more special version was made - which, however, was not available for purchase.
