Description

Registered on August 30, 1991, with color code 229 LeMans Blue in metallic and interior code H44, plush Angora - a pleasant color combination. The car initially appears to have been owned by car dealerships, and the first private owner was a lady who purchased the car in October 1993. The next and current owner acquired it in June 2018; he is a car mechanic and a Saab enthusiast. When the car was new, it was equipped with a leather steering wheel, leather gear knob, and leather upholstery (the original is included). It also received a luggage shelf with speakers (in a different color), additional speaker elements on the dashboard, Saab rubber mats, engine heater, and cabin outlet, a pair of extra lights, and accessory covers for the ventilation grilles. These are now fine and period-correct accessories. A towbar and a newer stereo have been installed. The original owner's manual and a filled service booklet are included. It has been inspected and is ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It starts easily and runs smoothly. Everything appears to work well, including the clutch, gears, and brakes. Comfortable and well-balanced. All electrical components are functioning, and the heating and ventilation system is operating at full capacity. While it hasn't been inspected on a lift, the underside appears to be in good condition based on what could be observed.

  • Interior condition:

Nice and well-preserved interior in its original condition. The carpets are in good condition with some wear on the driver's side. The door panels, seats, and rear seat are in great shape. And importantly, the headliner is in place as it should be! There is a small damage on the right rear, near the C-pillar.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is nice and glossy but has some minor damage such as stone chips, a few scratches, and a dent. However, everything appears to be in its original condition. The glass and rubber are in good condition, but there is a small damage on the left rear bumper. The wheels and tires are in good shape. All doors show signs of rust at the classic spots, at the bottom.

  • General condition:

This is a car is now entering the phase of becoming a collector's car. Its model, color combination, charming and period-correct accessories, as well as its overall condition, make it a car from the era of the Swedish welfare state, well worth keeping and preserving. It's a delightful Saab classic.

Facts about the model

Saab continued to struggle and sold relatively well during the 1970s. Their models were starting to show their age, especially the Saab 96. However, in May 1978, the new Saab 900 made its debut, which was an evolution of the Saab 99 but with a completely different aura. With its elongated body, it felt unique and attracted many new buyers worldwide. During the model years 1979-1993, a variety of versions were produced, including 2-door, 3-door, 4-door, and 5-door body styles. These ranged from stylish convertibles to practical family cars with ample space. In the 1990 model year, the Saab 900 S was introduced, featuring a low-pressure turbo with 16 valves and 145 horsepower DIN. During these years, Saab introduced numerous technical innovations and distinctive solutions, which often set them apart and created a unique image among buyers. Saab drivers were not mainstream; they were Saab enthusiasts, embodying the spirit of Saab and its Turbo heritage. In total, Saab produced 908,817 units of the Saab 900 for the model years 1979-1993. Quite an achievement for a small manufacturer in the cold north.
