"The pride of Swedish motorcycles from the fifties, a Monark, in a beautiful – and seemingly – reliable condition."

Description

This motorcycle was most likely sold new in Sweden, and we have spoken with the owner who had the bike from 1977 until the current owner purchased it in the early 1980s. At that time, it was reportedly in good condition, but the new owner wanted it even finer and proceeded to disassemble, blast, paint, and reassemble it. According to the family, he preferred screwing rather than riding. Since then, it has been well cared for and evidently used sparingly. The reason it is recorded in the registry in 1977 and then as pre-registered and registered in 1984 is likely (according to the Vehicle Registry's rule information) because the registration fee was not paid, it fell out of the registry, but at that time one could request to reinstate it with the same number if it was available. And it was, apparently. The latest and thus last inspection was carried out on 2017-02-14.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Started easily at the time of documentation and works well. Brakes, clutch, and driving experience all provide a good sensation characteristic of that era.

  • Interior condition:

A sleek red loaf (referring to the bike's appearance) with everything in order regarding the electrical components beneath it.

  • Exterior condition:

In the mid-eighties, it was disassembled, blasted, painted, and reassembled. It features a fine blue paint job, yet still tastefully retains some chromed patina, for example on the tank.

  • General condition:

In great condition and an equally attractive representative of the motorcycles from the bicycle factory in Varberg.

Facts about the model

Marketed as "Fantomknarren" in one of Monark's advertisements, it is unclear whether this referred to the strength of the comic book character aka Mr. Walker, or if it was meant to denote a ghostly sleek machine. In any case, it achieved quite a few successes as an enduro and motocross bike. The German two-cylinder ILO engine sounds wonderful, but it actually makes more noise than its performance might suggest. It's a bit like a Saab two-stroke engine, beautiful song without much push.
