"Normal and well-known driving feel for the model. For a provenance-hungry 240 enthusiast, there are good historical traces to explore."

Description

It was delivered new to its first owner in February 1984 by the Volvo dealer Bil-Månsson in Laholm. Reportedly, it has remained within the same family since new, with the majority of its mileage accumulated on trips and excursions, primarily in northern Sweden. These journeys are proudly proclaimed on the car’s rear windows.

A warranty certificate for a Eumig cine projector from 1961 sparks curiosity and could assist a provenance- and history-minded new owner in uncovering more details about the car's ownership history. The current owner only recently took possession of the vehicle. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on October 20, 2009.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine starts easily with a characteristic fan-like snort, and everything feels right in the gearbox and the rest of the transmission. The service history is unknown, so a thorough service and a brake inspection are recommended. The car has only covered just over 200 kilometers in the past 20 years and has mostly been stored in a heated garage. The most recent timing belt replacement was done in June 2006, according to the note on the cover.

  • Interior condition

The seats are intact, clean, and well-kept, as are the headliner and dashboard. However, the side pockets on the door panels are worn away. Under the carpet, the previous owner has placed newspapers and rags. Due to this rather unusual measure, the carpet and plastic trim by the doors are not properly mounted and are loose. A new owner will need to remove the materials that don’t belong under the carpet and reinstall both the carpet and trim correctly.

  • Exterior condition

Thoroughly rust-protected, both professionally and with DIY treatments—after all, sticky rustproofing is preferable to rust itself. The paint is in good condition, in a representative and period-correct color, with a few minor blemishes. The bumpers also show small signs of external contact.

  • General condition

A sensible and relatively low-mileage example in good fundamental condition. A great opportunity for an enthusiast to get a well-preserved, original 1980s-representative 242 back on the road with minimal effort.
