"An engine with a small exhaust turbocharger still delivers an enjoyable performance – albeit of a more moderate kind."

Description

It was delivered to its first owner in Italy in June 1997. The car was imported to Sweden six years later, and the current owner purchased it in September 2003. Since then, the Polar 945 has been a loyal and reliable daily driver for the family. Unfortunately, all service records, import documents, and other paperwork were lost in a fire at the owner’s home. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on December 18, 2025.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine, gearbox, brakes, and chassis all feel as they should, and historically this example has been trouble-free. The timing belt was replaced more than ten years ago, and a replacement is recommended in the near future.

  • Interior condition:

The interior shows normal wear in line with the mileage, with the usual entry wear on the driver’s seat. All door panels display the model’s characteristic shrinkage of the plastic along the upper sections. The left rear door sticks in the opening mechanism. Otherwise, the headliner is in good condition and the load area beneath the worn plastic mat is tidy.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork is worn with some damage, scratches, stone chips, and areas of peeling (see photos), but this is often of secondary importance to owners of Volvo estate workhorses of this kind. Technical reliability takes precedence over appearance and flair.

Newer Goodyear Ultra Grip studded tyres from 2022 are currently fitted, and a set of Hankook Ventus Prime tyres with good tread from 2021 is included in the load area, all mounted on steel wheels.

  • General condition:

Affordable and useful, with a little extra enjoyment under the hood. Well used and somewhat worn on the surface, but with mechanical reliability that delivers exactly that value.

Facts about the model

“Polar” was originally a value-oriented special version of the 240 model, introduced to help maintain sales in markets such as Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK, where cars with engines larger than 2.0 litres were subject to higher taxation. The 945 Polar was marketed in the same way and was one of the final models in Volvo’s legendary 900 series, renowned for its mechanical durability and generous load capacity.
