Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs smoothly and steadily once warmed up. During a short test drive on a smaller country road, it performed well in terms of handling, steering, clutch, and gear changes, with good braking function, though requiring a slightly firmer press. A thorough inspection and potential servicing would be beneficial.
It has not been examined on a lift, but visible vital components appeared to be in acceptable condition. However, as an older vehicle, there are signs of rust, which should be inspected more closely. -
Interior condition
The interior is in original condition with some signs of wear. The seats and rear bench are comfortable and in good shape, as are the door panels. There is wear on the side mat near the pedals, and the headliner has minor damage and discoloration near the rear window. The carpet behind the backrest and on the parcel shelf has some damage.
The steering wheel, controls, and instruments appear to function well. However, the driver’s door lock mechanism is stiff and should be inspected. -
Exterior condition
The car has been partially or fully repainted in its original color, Pastellweiss, though the timing of the repaint is uncertain. There are some paint blisters and rust indications near the windshield and a rear fender mount, but otherwise, wear is in line with the car’s age. There is some variation in color tone on one fender. A thorough inspection and polishing are recommended.
The chrome trim, moldings, and lighting details are in good condition, while the headlight eyelids and front and rear bumpers have rust spots. The front rubber seal has come loose and is currently secured with zip ties. The wheels and hubcaps show some wear, but the tires are in good condition.
The engine and luggage compartments are in typical condition for the car’s age. The Eberspächer heater has not been tested, and its functionality is uncertain. -
General condition
Well-functioning and complete, with functionality being the main priority. There are some details to address and work to be done, but the extent of this is up to the next owner.
Nonetheless, this is a true classic and enthusiast car, with over 50 years on the road.

Facts about the model
The later models of the VW Type 1 became increasingly powerful, featured larger luggage compartments, and incorporated period-specific safety enhancements, such as integrated headrests.
For model year 1971, the 1302 was introduced with a slightly more pronounced rear decklid, under which lay either the 1300cc engine with 44 hp or, in the S-model, the 1600cc engine with 50 hp. The front suspension was upgraded to a McPherson setup, increasing the front luggage space, while the rear suspension received IRS (Independent Rear Suspension). These updates improved handling and comfort significantly.
By model year 1972, the main visual update was the addition of 26 horizontal vents in the engine lid, otherwise, it was a relatively unchanged year. Even though the model was considered somewhat outdated by then, it still received positive reviews in Jan Ullén’s major car test of 1972. Both the 1302 with the smaller engine and the 1302S performed well in their respective classes, with ride comfort and reliability earning special praise.
Most of its competitors have long since disappeared and been forgotten, with only a few exceptions. The Beetle, however, continues to shine in all its glory.
