"Robust charm in a compact package. Restored to a balanced condition with a focus on functionality and preserving the original feel."

Description

The general agent Gjestvang & Co delivered this car new to Ulriksdal Palace Administration in June 1960, where it served until 1970. The next owners of the Land Rover were Sten and Inga Hegeler, well-known psychologists at the time, writing under the names Inge and Sten.

As experts in relationships, they educated school youth and the public through films and advice columns in newspapers. Based in Småland, the car changed hands a few times within the region before eventually ending up in the Gothenburg area. There, it underwent a restoration by a devoted Land Rover enthusiast. It was last inspected—and permanently registered as such—in June 2020.

The odometer reads 24,700 km, but in reality, it is likely 124,700 km – much of the vehicle’s history and solid original condition suggest it has probably not been driven beyond that.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

During the restoration, the frame and undercarriage were found to be in excellent condition. The frame was thoroughly treated, first coated with an extra-durable epoxy primer, followed by a polyurethane chassis paint, and upgraded with parabolic rear springs.

The engine was inspected, measured, and tested, confirming it to be in good condition, further supporting the idea that the car has not been driven extensively. It was then brush-restored using the correct original color, Duck Egg Engine Blue.

The transmission is noisy, but this is completely normal for the model. The electrical system has been converted to an alternator and negative ground.

  • Interior condition:

Simple, spartan, and rugged. The Land Rover offers a very basic experience, with vinyl seats and painted metal surfaces. The front seat has been reupholstered, while the rear benches likely retain their original covering.

At some point, someone cut a hole in the cover to make access to the clutch slave cylinder easier. The headliner has been removed, and a few small paint spots are visible on the front seat.

  • Exterior condition:

On the exterior, a balance has been struck between a presentable finish and a rugged, user-friendly condition. The paint, Mid Grey, suits the vehicle beautifully, as do the vintage 1970s license plates, which were in such good condition that they were retained.

The paintwork has a nice shine but is not flawless, with some details left unrestored. The car is equipped with a capstan winch, a highly sought-after accessory today. For open-air driving, the roof is removable, and the windshield can be folded down.

A complete set of new rubber seals and new window frames is included.

  • General condition:

A gently restored survivor with a charming history. A versatile vehicle, highly capable in forests and rough terrain—or perfect for summer drives with the roof off.
