"An ideal candidate for a full restoration or as a donor car, this car offers valuable, hard-to-find parts, along with a solid body and complete interior."

Description

Originally sold and registered in Sweden in 1957, the car has reportedly been stored in a garage since the early 1980s and, before that, in a barn, according to the wife who inherited them. The last recorded inspection took place on December 31, 1972, indicating that the car was likely taken off the road around 1975.

The engine has been dismantled, and although the associated parts are included (see photos), they are in poor condition.

The previous owner also owned the other BMW 501 listed in this auction. It was likely intended that both cars would be restored, but unfortunately, the project was never completed.

Photography was difficult due to low light and limited space, but both vehicles are now moved outdoors to facilitate transport and loading. A considerable amount of older documentation accompanies the car, and it remains registered in Sweden.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

No engine is currently installed, though worn and corroded engine parts are included. The engine bay appears solid, but it’s unclear if the tires hold air, so the car will need to be winched onto a trailer.

The original key for the ignition lock is unfortunately missing, but another ignition lock has been installed, and a key is available for it. However, the key for the door locks is original.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is complete and in fairly good condition, with the seats, headliner, and dashboard instrumentation all remaining intact.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is complete with minimal signs of rust or dents, while the dusty paint retains a charming patina. The bootspace appears solid and clean, and features a number of original lights and details. The underbody does show evidence of older welding and repairs.

  • General condition:

Aside from the missing engine, the car is otherwise complete and offers significant potential for the right buyer—selling its parts alone could turn a profit. Ideally, purchasing both cars would enable you to build one solid, fully restored car.
