"Older paperwork from Riksarkivet is included for re-registration. The last recorded sign of use dates back to 1965. The car has not been started, but the engine turns over freely by hand."

Description

The current owner bought an old farm and later discovered two Volvo PVs stored in a barn, untouched for decades. The barn had to be partly dismantled to get them out — see recovery photos. Fortunately, the dry storage has preserved much of the car.

Old registration papers show five owners, all from the Tranås area. The PV was likely last driven in the late 1960s before being parked in the barn.

It’s a rare early PV worth saving. You can either fully renovated it or get it running and preserve its original barn-find character — sometimes that draws even more attention. Rust is mainly on the lower wing edges and general surface rust elsewhere. Early PVs are solidly built, so repairs are straightforward. The underbody has only surface rust, nothing serious. The bootlid and rear bumper are dented but repairable. Chrome has consistent patina.

Nice period touches include KAK (Kungliga Automobil Klubben) stickers front and rear, and a classic roof-mounted sun visor.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Under the bonnet everything appears complete. The car hasn’t been started, but the engine turns over freely by hand. All four tyres hold air for a few days. The buyer will need to arrange collection and transport.

  • Interior condition

The interior has survived storage surprisingly well. It is missing the passenger and rear seats, and the headliner is damaged, but the rest is complete and retains its original bakelite detailing.

  • Exterior condition

Main rust is found around the wing edges, and both the bootlid and rear bumper are dented. Surface rust is present on the body and underbody (see pictures). The car will need a thorough clean to assess its full condition. Chrome all round shows patina.

  • General condition

A perfect winter project for a Volvo enthusiast. These are straightforward cars to work on, and parts are still readily available through specialists and Volvo enthusiast groups on Facebook.
