"Unusual sight on Swedish roads, much more common on Italian ones."

Description

The Piaggio was purchased new by Guiseppe in Italy, who used it very sparingly for a couple of years. It was not used commercially but primarily for trips to the local market in his village. After some time, it was covered and stored in a dark garage for 30 years. When Guiseppe passed away, his nephew Valentino inherited it in 2007 but did not use it.

The current owner was searching for a Piaggio on the Italian equivalent of "Blocket" and found this one in 2016. A purchase agreement was drawn up and notarized at the municipal office in Cingoli, Italy, on February 19, 2016. The Piaggio was then transported to Sweden, a journey of 3,500 kilometers.

It was registered in Sweden as a three-wheeler, making it legal to drive with a regular B-license. During registration in Sweden, the Swedish Transport Agency kept the original Italian documents, but a laminated copy is included with the Piaggio (see photo).

The Piaggio has been used as a promotional vehicle for Norrtälje Bränneri but remains privately owned. Since arriving in Sweden, it has been driven approximately 10-15 kilometers per year and is believed to have never been restored or repainted. It has passed inspections without remarks and is now inspection-exempt.

Facts about the model

The Piaggio Ape is a three-wheeled vehicle manufactured by the same company behind the iconic Vespa scooter. Introduced in 1948, shortly after World War II, the Ape was designed as an economical and practical transport solution for small business owners and farmers in a rebuilding Europe. It combines design and functionality in a charming way and is still used for various purposes around the world today.

The Ape is equipped with a small engine and is available in both gasoline and diesel versions. Its compact size allows it to easily navigate narrow streets and tight spaces. With two rear wheels and one in the front, it has a simple, lightweight design, which also helps keep production costs low.

The Ape has become a symbol of Italian engineering and creativity, reflecting the Italian lifestyle. It remains particularly popular in small Italian villages as well as in larger cities, where it is used as a stylish advertising platform or a unique tourist vehicle.
