"Presentable, period-typical color and a more unusual automatic transmission gives character to the car."

Description

In the United States, the car has only one owner: a Marine Corps officer with a family who preferred driving Volvo's more exotic cars. The father purchased it new in the fall of 1970 and drove it until 1978, when he upgraded to a new 262 Coupé, which he used until 1987, when it was replaced by a new 780 Turbo. Following his father's death in 2016, the son sold all three of these Volvo coupés to a Volvo collector in Gothenburg. The 1800E had been sun bleached, but it was neither rusted or damaged. When it returned to Sweden, it was thoroughly serviced and driven by enthusiasts during the summer of 2017. It was dismantled in 2018 to be painted in the original color Safari Yellow 100 by Rollsbo Billack in Kungälv. The car was updated in 2020-2021 with new carpets, door panels, paded dashboard, mouldings, bumpers, lights, and tyres. The headliner, seats, and engine compartment are all original. The seller ensures that the car has never rusted or been in an accident. It has traveled 105,000 miles, which is the equivalent of 169,000 km.
The car was inspected/moted on March 3, 2022, and is thus exempt for life.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Surprisingly enjoyable to drive because to the model's unusual automatic transmission, the electric injection version of the B20 engine with a brisk 120 horsepower contributes to that experience. The inconsistent idle is most likely caused by debris in the tank and a clogged fuel filter. It is recommended that a buyer checks this after a period of driving. The car feels stable on the road, and the brakes operate well, however during certain motions in the front carriage, a clunking noise can be heard from the front anti-roll bar. During the inspection, no comments were made about this.

  • Interior condition:

Complete and nice interior in normal condition. Rearview mirror and new sun visors with mounting details included (picture). Spare wheel is loose in the trunk and had missing tools and jack.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice body and painting, with well-fitting panels and trim. The rubber and chrome trims have been replaced. A little dust in the paintwork and some overspray on the wires and engine compartment details.

  • General condition:

Beautiful 1800s with nice paint and bodywork, a great overall impression, a dynamic engine, and a pleasant driving sensation.
