Description
The background to the other racing sports car - Focus Mark V - was that Picko Troberg would compete in the sports car World Cup in the class up to two litres. He needed a car and Sportcars got the job. The Englishman Charles Lucas built the chassis - with Lotus 23 as a model - while Lennart Sundin at Sportcars hand built the aluminium body. The engine was purchased from the Maserati Museum in Modena. It was picked up by Frank Williams (Yes, the F1 Legend) Who then traded in racing parts - this many years before he became the legendary founder of his own F1 stable. Williams packed the engine in a VW bus that was driven non-stop from Stockholm-Modena and back. For the inconvenience, Frank received $500, which was a decent penny at the time. However, the first test revealed that the Maserati engine was both old and tired. It was quickly replaced by a nimbler power source from Ford, the Ford 1600 Cosworth FVA, a common power source in the then successful Ford Escorts. It is such an engine that racing collectors are looking for.
What happened next is a little hazy. Picko postponed his racing plans and moved on to other projects. For over 30 years, the car has been owned by a collector in Gothenburg, who has since died. As a result, the estate auctions off the car.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine has a verified history that says it sat in various Ford Escorts on the Swedish championship stage for standard cars before an owner contacted Sportcars for a review and maintenance of the engine. After that, it had been driven for around 2 hours in a Lotus 7 before the owner of focus bought.
-
Interior condition
The original seat, along with the instruments and steering wheel, adds to the vintage feel. Aside from that, it still has its old electrics and fire extinguishing equipment. The chassis and body must be secured, built, and preserved for future generations.
-
Exterior condition
An old and battled scared aluminium body. The front was damaged earlier, so it has been cut and removed; three original racing wheels are included. Please review the photos as many parts are included.
-
General condition
A historical and exciting project that will require a significant amount of work but has a significant national provenance and significance.
