"The car runs beautifully and makes a good impression both inside and out. Enthusiastic owners have maintained it well."

Description

This Saab 9-3 is a fine example of a car that over the years has had owners who have appreciated and cared for their vehicle. It came to Sweden early from Belgium. According to the current owner, previous owners had a strong interest in maintaining the car rather than using it as an ordinary everyday car, and the current keeper has continued in the same spirit. The car has been serviced regularly with oil changes and maintenance approximately every 500 kilometres, a routine that the previous owner also followed. The service has been carried out in-house, not at a workshop.

During the current ownership, the car has received new shock absorbers and springs all round from Bilstein. The brakes have been upgraded with slotted brake discs and new pads. It has also been fitted with a larger aluminum intercooler, a quality upgrade as the original component is not considered to be of the same standard. The exterior is completed with newer tyres mounted on the car's original wheels, which have been repainted and thus regained their fine appearance. At the inspection in July 2026, it received a clean sheet, and furthermore praise for being in such fine condition underneath – dry, clean and well-preserved. The AC system works, although the cooling effect is somewhat weak and the system would likely benefit from a recharge. The car comes with handbooks and keys as well as all original tools, which remain in the car. Overall, this is a very pleasant Saab 9-3 that has received regular maintenance. A car for those seeking a well-maintained and carefully preserved Saab.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Runs well in engine and drivetrain. Lively and willing engine. Rolls steadily on the road and brakes work well. All equipment appears to function as it should but the AC cools slightly weakly. The driving experience feels like driving a newer car.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in good condition. Pleasant, clean and well-maintained. The lower plastic console on the driver's seat for the control buttons is slightly loose.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork is in good condition, though there is a slight colour variation between the driver's door and the rear wing. There are a few minor stone chips but no major ones. The soft top raises and lowers without problems. There is a minor tear in the soft top fabric, see image. See images.

  • General condition

A well-maintained and carefully looked-after Saab Viggen in good working condition. For those who want a functioning and roadworthy cabriolet.

Facts about the model

In 1999, Saab launched an even more powerful variant than the top-of-the-line 9-3 2.0T (200 hp), called the 9-3 Viggen, named after the classic fighter aircraft Saab 37 Viggen. The engine in the Viggen was sourced from the 9-5 Aero, a 2.3-litre unit producing 225 hp. In 2000, the car's engine power was increased to 230 hp. Other changes to the Viggen compared to the Aero (which was launched in 2000) included an improved clutch, stiffer dampers, different springs and various cosmetic modifications, such as a rear spoiler. The model was available in six colours: Lightning Blue, Monte Carlo Yellow, steel grey, silver, black and Laser Red. A total of 4,600 examples of the 9-3 Viggen were produced between 1999 and 2000.
