"Fine and well-maintained car that runs well and has been driven sparingly in recent years. This car has plenty left to give and is a charming little representative of Porsche's entry-level model from the 1980s. As with all cars that have been driven little in recent years, an overhaul is recommended."

Description

This vehicle was registered for traffic on 12 November 1982. The previous owner, a car enthusiast, acquired it in January 2005. His wife took over the vehicle on 30 January this year. Over the years, the owner has maintained the car with regular oil changes etc. The interior has been reupholstered in calf leather. The cambelt was replaced two years ago. Now 82,320 km on the odometer, but the odometer has been out of order for several years. The car, however, has barely been driven during these years. Essentially only back and forth to inspections. Always stored in a garage. Equipped with an engine heater. The car comes with original instruction manuals etc. Two sets of keys.
Inspected on 5 May this year and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts without problem and runs well in the engine but the battery was insufficiently charged. During a short test drive in a residential area, everything such as steering, clutch, gearbox, road-holding details and brakes appeared to function well.
Not inspected on a lift but what could be seen looked good and the car has been rust-protected over the years. No comments during vehicle inspections.

  • Interior condition

Original interior trim in good condition except for the seats and rear seat, which have been professionally reupholstered in leather. Steering wheel controls, gauges and dashboard in fine condition, a couple of buttons on the center console are slightly loose. Everything appears to function well. The same applies to the manual function for raising and lowering the sunroof. Blaupunkt cassette stereo.

NB, new information - after inspection and photography, the steering wheel sustained damage during garage maneuvering. The plastic on the left spoke was damaged, see the last image in the photo series.

  • Exterior condition

Fine paintwork which appears to be in original condition with normal wear consistent with age and mileage. Glass, trim, emblems and lighting details likewise in fine original condition. Tight sunroof. Fine condition in engine and luggage compartments. Fine wheels and good tyres.

  • General condition

A fine and spirited people's sportscar that marked the beginning of Porsche's development towards front-mounted engines with rear-wheel drive, offering more comfort and generous interior space. This classic has been driven sparingly and has survived the years in excellent condition, and is now ready for a new enthusiastic owner.

Facts about the model

The Porsche 924 deviated from many of the marque's traditional hallmarks. Here, a front-mounted water-cooled engine was chosen, coil springs on the front axle combined with a transaxle. The model was developed at Porsche in collaboration with Volkswagen/Audi and was intended to become the flagship model for Audi. Porsche not only designed the bodywork and interior but also the chassis and drivetrain. The only requirement from VW/Audi was that the drivetrain should accommodate the existing two-litre engine from the Audi 100 and Volkswagen LT. However, VW/Audi got cold feet during the oil crisis and sold the entire project to Porsche.

The 924 quickly became known as a well-balanced car to drive. Motoring journalists wrote that it was the most manageable Porsche model from the factory ever. Good aerodynamics, essentially 50/50 weight distribution and an engine producing 125 bhp plus a five-speed gearbox with a very short shift lever. Combined with a low seating position and relatively low weight, the car was perceived to have clear sports car ambitions.

From model year 1978 came a Turbo version and in 1986 the 924S arrived with a new engine designed by Porsche.

The model was manufactured as model years 1976 - 1988. A total of 152,082 examples were built.
