"A charming A-Ford coupé in a sober colour scheme. Reupholstered in the cabin and somewhat rougher in the engine compartment, but nonetheless a car with plenty of driving enjoyment. The car has been restored and everything maintains a high finish. It has been standing for a few years but after an inspection ready for service again."

Description

This car was manufactured under licence in Denmark and registered here in Sweden in 1936. At some point it was deregistered, but was re-registered on 10 June 1988 and first brought into traffic on 28 February 2010. The current owner, a well-known figure in the automotive history hobby for many years, acquired the car in November 2018 and since then it has been part of his extensive private collection. Seller and Bilwebauctions chose for logistical reasons to leave the vehicle in the collection during inspection and photography.

The coupé has been restored on a couple of occasions in "modern times", first the exterior and then all the mechanics. After that, the engine, gearbox, drivetrain, brakes and steering were completely new or in as-new condition. This extensive work was carried out 10-15 years ago.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Started up before sale but has not been driven for several years. As all technical components were inspected and renovated not too long ago, it should be relatively straightforward to get it back on the road again. It was possible to inspect the undercarriage relatively well without a lift, and it looked good.

  • Interior condition

Fine and solid interior with fine plush and comfortable seating. Equally fine door panels, trim panels and headliner. Steering wheel, controls and instruments/gauges in fine condition.

  • Exterior condition

Fine and glossy paintwork with excellent condition on glass, chrome, trim and details, emblems, running boards and lighting details. Fine spoke wheels and period-correct tyres. Many fine accessories in keeping with the era. Fine and clean engine compartment. Fine mother-in-law seat/compartment with leather upholstery and safety belts.

  • General condition

The A-Ford, regardless of configuration, is one of the most well-known and cherished classic enthusiast cars in the world. When it is also a car in such fine condition as this, it is always an interesting collector's car.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motor historian and over the years many fine and well-maintained cars have passed through the collection. He has always looked after, serviced and kept them in excellent and roadworthy condition. It has been a lifestyle and a multitude of friends, cars and memories he and we as a family cherish. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and for the cars in the collection.

Facts about the model

Ford Model A, which followed the legendary Model T, was manufactured from 1927 to 1931. When the Model A Ford arrived, it introduced standardized controls with a conventional layout including pedals. The engine was a 4-cylinder of 3.3 liters and approximately 40 hp. Nearly 4,850,000 examples were produced and it was also a success here in Sweden. Even today, there are over a thousand registered examples here. Unlike the Model T, a wide range of different body styles, colors and equipment levels were offered. In 1932 it was time for an upgrade in Model B, but the big news was the Models 18 and 40 which featured the iconic V8 engine, but that is another story.
