Description

This Swedish-sold car has had seven registered owners in total. It was purchased in 1985 by an owner who kept it until 2007, when his son briefly took over ownership before gifting it back to his father as a 50th birthday present just a month later. Since then, he has cherished the car, keeping it in good running condition, driving it every summer, and taking it to local car events.

The car underwent a renovation in 1985, which is documented in the workshop manual. At that time, the engine received a resurfaced cylinder head, cylinder honing, and was fitted with new pistons, rings, gaskets, and other replacement parts. The bodywork was generally solid but did receive welding repairs to the floor, sills, boot, and along the door edges before being repainted.

Remarkably, nearly 40 years later, the car still presents very well. There are no rust issues or damages, only a few minor touch-ups and marks as shown in the pictures.

The owner also shares an interesting story about the car’s color, told to him by a former SAAB employee:

The top executives at SAAB were once sitting at Hotel Swania, the grandest hotel by the canal in Trollhättan, enjoying their drinks. One of them ordered a coffee with cognac and cream. When he saw the shade, he pointed to the glass and said:
‘That’s the color we must have on the new SAAB!’

A messenger was immediately sent from the factory to bring the drink to the paint workshop, where the color was recreated.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts easily and runs well, delivering its iconic two-stroke high-pitched sound. On the road, both engine and gearbox feel smooth and stable, with strong brakes providing confident stopping power. The car feels reliable, having always been regularly serviced and kept in good running condition. It sits on good wheels with older tyres, is inspection-exempt, and ready to drive home

  • Interior condition:

Interior is clean and tidy overall. The driver’s seat has some loose stitching that can be easily repaired, along with cracked vinyl on the bolster. The other seats are in good condition with only minor marks. The driver’s door card is complete but shows some marks, a small tear, and a worn handle (see pictures), while the passenger door card is in good condition. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and the dashboard is clean and tidy with fully functional gauges. An old-school Blaupunkt radio is also installed, adding a nice period touch.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is straight and undamaged with no visible rust issues. The underbody is clean and tidy, showing only older signs of welding and repairs, including a small patch in the boot near the inner wings. The paintwork remains bright and presentable, with a few minor imperfections such as paint runs on the rear panel near the registration plate and small touch-ups around the windscreen and bonnet edges (see pictures). The chrome trim all around is bright, clean, and shiny.

  • General condition:

This is a fun and reliable classic Saab 93 in good overall condition. It requires no urgent fixes—just a little attention to the driver’s seat (or simply a seat cover)—and it’s ready to provide many enjoyable drives ahead.
