"The motorcycle looks fine and gives a very good impression. It did not start at the time of testing, presumably due to an electrical fault."

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The motorcycle has not been test ridden as it did not start during testing, but the engine turns over with good compression. The brakes work without locking up. It has been standing for some time and is in need of an overhaul. Will certainly start after troubleshooting of the ignition/electrical system.

  • Exterior condition

Very fine in both paint and chrome with minimal signs of use. Good Metzeler tyres on original wire wheels.

  • General condition

A fine BMW that after an electrical inspection should be roadworthy and ready to enjoy on beautiful roads. The vehicle is exempt from inspection.

Facts about the model

BMW R60 was one of the classic BMW motorcycles from the early 1960s and was manufactured during the period 1956–1960. A model from 1961 is therefore normally a late-registered or model-year-adjacent machine, and the chassis number is important for establishing the exact year of manufacture.

The R60 featured BMW's well-known 594 cc two-cylinder boxer engine, air-cooled and equipped with shaft drive to the rear wheel. The engine produced around 28 bhp, which provided good long-distance capabilities rather than sporting performance.

One of the model's most characteristic features is the Earles front fork, which provided very stable handling characteristics and suited the BMW philosophy of the period with comfort and longevity. The motorcycle had a four-speed gearbox and shaft drive.

The R60 was appreciated by both private owners and professional riders thanks to its robustness. BMW's boxer engine and shaft drive made it particularly suited for long-distance riding and regular use.
