Mercedes-Benz 190C — 1965

Sustainability is a buzzword frequently used today. It also applies very well to Mercedes-Benz cars from this era—the car has been passed down through three generations. Some spare parts are included.

"A fine car in better-than-average condition, which has only been serviced as needed over the years. The term "solid as a vault" is often used to describe these fin-tail Mercs—and it is accurate."

"A fine car in better-than-average condition, which has only been serviced as needed over the years. The term "solid as a vault" is often used to describe these fin-tail Mercs—and it is accurate."

Description

It started as a taxi in Lilla Edet but didn’t serve there for long. After just a few years, it was purchased by a private individual who used it throughout the 1970s. The car was then inherited by his son and subsequently taken over by his daughter in 1994.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs very smoothly, responding immediately to the gas, and is precise in steering and handling. There are no play or delays in any aspect—something that speaks volumes about Mercedes' philosophy on durability, especially in a vehicle that has not been restored. The engine bay is neat, although the sound insulation on the hood has disappeared.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is very nice and well-maintained. The seats, upholstery, door panels, and carpets are all in excellent condition with just a bit of patina. Some discoloration from age and light may be visible on the front seats and the headliner near the rear window. The original rubber mats are in good shape for their age, and there are no noticeable damages or wear on the steering wheel or dashboard.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has been repainted at some point, likely during the 1960s, possibly when it transitioned from being a taxi to a private vehicle. The paintwork shows no major damage beyond stone chips and a few scratches and has dulled somewhat over the years. The chrome details and shiny surfaces are in very good condition and have held up well over time. There are a few small dents on the rear bumper, but the chrome there has also fared very well.

  • General condition:

Technically robust and reliable, the car feels very trustworthy to drive. The exact mileage is uncertain—the odometer likely has rolled over at least once, but it’s unclear whether it has done so two or three times. However, this doesn’t matter much as such details are barely noticeable on a well-maintained and well-preserved Mercedes from this era.
