"Smart and properly maintained youngtimer from BMW's E31 generation, equipped with a V8 engine and 5-speed automatic gearbox. This car is well-cared-for and well-serviced; we find nothing requiring immediate attention. There are some annoying pixel errors in a display and one of two possible gear position indicators is not functioning. This is something the buyer can have addressed in due course. Otherwise the car is passed by the vehicle inspection authority until 31 August 2027 and is completely roadworthy. Just turn the key and drive away."

Description

The car was used in the Stockholm area during its first years, between 1996 and 2002. The current owner acquired the car in 2002 and took it to Gotland. Since then it has only been driven during the summer months and stored in a heated garage. The servicing has been carried out by the same company and mechanic for twenty years (PG Bilservice, which has been authorised by BMW). Receipts are available for all work carried out on the car, including a new radiator, servicing of the air conditioning system, etc. The owner has continuously maintained and invested in the car to the tune of approximately 90,000 kronor during his ownership. To facilitate the purchase, the seller undertakes to transport the car free of charge from Visby to mainland Sweden, by agreement. NB! The buyer is first obliged to inspect the vehicle and approve it on site in Gotland. After that, the car can be transported to mainland Sweden. According to Transportstyrelsen, the car has had 10 registered owners since new, including car dealers and the current owner. This may sound like a lot, but an examination shows that many of the registered owners are leasing companies during the car's very first years. This indicates that the number of actual users is considerably fewer. Since 2002, the car has been owned by the same person. The current odometer reading shows just under 132,250 km and we have no reason to believe otherwise. A folder with documentation such as inspection reports and receipts for all service work since 2002 accompanies the car. In addition, the original tool kit and instruction booklet are included.

This is a distance auction. The photographs and information about the vehicle and its technical condition have been obtained from the owner. BWA has not therefore inspected the car on site at the seller's premises.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Equipped with a V8 engine of 4.0 liters with a stated output of 286 hp, coupled to a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Starts immediately and runs beautifully. See the film. Service has been carried out by the same firm and mechanic for twenty years, and all service and inspection intervals have been followed meticulously. New starter battery and new tires were fitted in 2025, when the rear wheel bearings and fuel lines were also replaced. Eisenmann stainless steel exhaust system from the catalytic converter and rearward.

  • Interior condition

Light leather upholstery in fine condition. Well-functioning air-conditioning. The gear position indicator at the gear lever is not working, but there is also a digital display at the speedometer showing the gear positions, so this is not something that affects the car's function, it could rather be categorized as a minor irritation. Likewise, there is a minor pixel error in the display at the center console/trip computer. Good luggage space, in the picture it appears there is a minor stain on the textile mat on the left side.

  • Exterior condition

Original paint with a few minor marks from door openings. The wheels have minor marks from kerb scrapes. CSI mirrors and rear diffuser. Original mirrors are retained and included. New warning lights/indicator lights fitted in 2023.

  • General condition

A fine and well-maintained example of this car model. An extra plus is that the car has been running on Gotland with the same owner for the past 24 years

Facts about the model

The BMW 840i (E31) was launched in 1994 as a more accessible alternative to the original V12-powered 850i. It was equipped with a 4-litre V8 engine (M60) producing 286 horsepower. In 1996, the engine was upgraded to 4.4 litres (M62), and the model remained in production until 1999, when the first generation of the 8-Series was discontinued.
