"Melodious, potent and striking."

Description

This highly unusual AC 3000ME has been in the current owner's hands for the entire 25 years and has undergone extensive technical overhaul during this time. The car was driven home from England by the current owner personally, which from the outset marked the beginning of a long and committed ownership.

Over the years, the car has received the care needed to preserve such a special car model in good condition. The car's load-bearing chassis has been rust-treated and the front subframe has also been renovated. All wear parts in the front and rear suspension have been replaced, as have the braking system front and rear including brake hoses. The cooling system has been renovated with new hoses and likewise the accelerator cable, speedometer cable and handbrake cable are new. The car is furthermore equipped with tyres that are approximately one year old and have good tread.

The AC 3000ME is an uncommon and carefully sorted sports car with strong racing influences. The mid-engine construction and lightweight chassis evoke thoughts of iconic sports cars such as the Ford GT40 and Lola T70. This is a car built with a focus on driving pleasure, balance and performance. The bodywork has likely been repainted at some point during the car's life, and the overall impression is very appealing.

Here is an opportunity to acquire a thoroughly overhauled AC 3000ME – a car for those who appreciate unusual construction, British sports car history and a driving experience beyond the ordinary. Comprehensive documentation is included.

Facts about the model

The AC 3000ME is one of the most unusual and fascinating British sports cars from the 1970s and 1980s. The model was developed by the venerable AC Cars, the company behind the legendary AC Cobra, and was presented as a modern mid-engined car with the ambition to take the marque into a new era. After a lengthy development period, production finally began in 1979 and continued until 1985.

The car is powered by a transversely-mounted 3.0-litre Ford Essex V6 producing approximately 138 bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. The engine is positioned behind the driver, which provides a well-balanced weight distribution and a driving experience that differs from most British sports cars of the same period. The chassis consists of a sturdy steel frame with a lightweight fibreglass bodywork, which keeps the weight down and contributes to the car's agile road characteristics.

Despite its promising qualities, the AC 3000ME suffered from several years of delays due to new type approval requirements and financial problems. By the time the car finally reached the market, competitors such as the Lotus Esprit had already taken the lead, which meant that sales remained limited. In total, only just over 100 examples were built, making the model one of the rarest series-produced British sports cars.
