Description

This vehicle was delivered new on September 25, 2002, to the Swedish Parliament Administration (Riksdagsförvaltningen) in Stockholm. It was driven by trained security chauffeurs as one of the Parliament’s official security vehicles. One of these chauffeurs purchased the car in March 2010 and kept it until October 2020, after which it was owned by a Volvo enthusiast (S80/90 club). In February 2021, the current owner acquired the car and has since used it as a combined daily driver and enthusiast vehicle, covering approximately 20,000 km.

Throughout its life, both in state service and afterwards, the car has been well maintained. A filled-in service booklet is included. The timing belt was replaced in 2022, a new battery installed in 2023, and in 2024 the rear brake discs, handbrake cables, and brake shoes were replaced.

Included with the car are the owner’s manual, service booklet, various documents, papers, and literature. Two keys are also provided. The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly and calmly in both engine and drivetrain. During a test drive on smaller country roads, everything felt solid and well-functioning. Steering, handling, acceleration, and brakes all performed in a pleasant and reassuring manner.

Not inspected on a lift, but everything visible appeared to be in good condition. No remarks from technical inspections.

  • Interior condition:

Nice and solid original interior in good condition considering its age and mileage. The seats and rear bench offer good comfort, and the door panels, carpets, and headliner are all well preserved. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are in good working order.

  • Exterior condition:

Appears to be in original condition with normal wear consistent with age and mileage. The paint is in good condition, as are the glass, trim, emblems, and lighting details—although one reverse light was not functioning. Wheels and tires are in good condition, though slightly muddy from rain and gravel roads during inspection. Engine bay and trunk area are consistent with the overall condition.

  • General condition:

Volvo’s flagship and premium model entering the new millennium—this example comes with an interesting history in the service of the Swedish state. There are some details that could use attention, but overall it’s a fine classic and enthusiast vehicle with a unique and distinguished past.

Facts about the model

The Volvo S80 was first unveiled in 1998 as the successor to the Volvo 960/S90. The first generation was produced from 1998 to 2006 and was the first model built on Volvo’s then-new P2 platform, featuring front- or all-wheel drive. Its design was clearly influenced by the Volvo ECC concept car, and the S80 was styled by Peter Horbury.

The T6 Executive version was Volvo’s most luxurious premium sedan at the time. It was equipped with a six-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol engine producing 272 hp. The Executive model came with additional luxury and comfort features compared to the standard version, targeting customers seeking high levels of comfort, advanced safety systems, and a premium driving experience.

In total, 368,000 units of the first-generation S80 were produced.
