"Grace, space and pace stood for elegance and modern design, comfort and generous space, as well as powerful performance—hallmarks of Jaguar during the 1950s and ’60s, all of which are well represented in this car. Classic features such as wire wheels, lavish leather upholstery, and wood trim create a refined atmosphere. There are some details that could use attention, but the foundation is solid."

Description

This car was originally purchased new by a lady in Falkirk, Scotland, on August 15, 1967. After passing through four additional owners in the British Isles, it was imported to Sweden in June 1982. A complete ownership history is included.

Between 1989 and 1991, the car underwent a full restoration, and it was officially registered for road use on May 31, 1991. The restoration is thoroughly documented with both detailed text and photographs, all of which are included.

The current owner acquired the car in June 2013 and has also kept documentation of all maintenance and work carried out during his ownership. At the time of purchase, the car had been driven approximately 10,000 km since the restoration. Since then, he has added just under another 10,000 km. When restored, the car had 9,099 miles (roughly 146,400 km) on the clock—the original miles odometer is included.

Over the years, the car has been regularly serviced with oil and filter changes. The clutch slave cylinder was replaced in June 2022, and a new master cylinder was installed in October 2024.

The sale includes the original owner’s manual, documents, literature, and various small accessories. Recently inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and ran smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. During a test drive on smaller country roads, the car felt well-sorted in terms of steering, clutch, gearbox with overdrive, handling, and brakes. There is some minor oil seepage from the engine.

Not inspected on a lift, but everything visible appeared to be in good condition.

  • Interior condition:

The interior was replaced during the restoration. The front and rear seats are in fine condition, as are the door panels, trim, carpets, and headliner. The wood trim has been refurbished and presents very nicely. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are all in good condition. All electrical components appear to function well, with the exception of the horn. The speedometer has been replaced with a kilometer version; the original miles unit is included.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice paintwork carried out in the mid-1990s, showing normal light wear from gentle use since then. Chrome, glass, trim, emblems, and lighting details are all in good condition. Attractive wire wheels with different tires front and rear. Engine bay and trunk area are both in good condition.

  • General condition:

An elegant sports sedan from the era when British pop bands, Carnaby Street, and crime thrillers were taking the world by storm. Alongside the Mini and sprightly little sports cars, the Mk2 became an icon of its time. This particular example is beautifully preserved, having undergone a restoration, and today stands as a sought-after and truly classic enthusiast vehicle.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar Mk I and Mk II were four-door luxury sports saloons in the midsize segment, designed by William Lyons and produced between 1956 and 1969. The Mk II version was built from 1962 to 1967 and was offered with three engine options: the Mk 2.4 with 120 hp, the Mk 3.4 with 210 hp, and the Mk 3.8 with 220 hp. All were inline six-cylinder engines with twin carburetors. The powerful 3.8-liter version could reach 125 mph (201 km/h) and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0–97 km/h) in just 8.5 seconds—impressive performance for its time.

Gear shifting was done manually via a four-speed gearbox, but an electric overdrive was available as an option. Power steering and automatic transmission could also be ordered.

Externally, the Mk II differed from its predecessor in several ways. The upper part of the body was redesigned, including larger windows that improved visibility by 18%. The refreshed exterior also featured a new grille and larger repositioned headlights. The interior received updates as well, including a revised dashboard layout. With the Mk II came disc brakes on all four wheels, setting a new standard for the time.

A total of 83,976 Mk II cars were produced, including 28,663 with the 3.4-liter engine. After 1967, the 2.4- and 3.4-liter versions were renamed the 240 and 340, respectively, before the launch of the all-new Jaguar XJ model.

There was also a Daimler version of the Mk II, produced from 1962 to 1969, which featured a 2.5-liter V8 engine producing 144 hp and the signature Daimler grille. A total of 17,620 examples of this version were built.
