"A very well-restored and beautiful Volvo 142, both mechanically and aesthetically. It functions flawlessly and runs smoothly."

Description

The car has only had two previous owners, a father and son. It was used until 2003 when it was stored in a garage. It wasn't particularly rusty and had only driven 18,800 miles. Some repairs had been done previously, but the paint and interior had faded, and the front fenders were rusty. The current owner, who is a skilled mechanic, bought the car from us at an auction in 2019 and began a restoration. It was repainted in 2001 and was completed last winter. It is now a beautifully restored original car that is delightful to drive and feels like new.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs very smoothly and has been thoroughly renovated. The engine has good compression and has received new gaskets, as well as the original camshaft. The carburetor has been overhauled, and the entire braking system is new, including discs, calipers, brake pads, and lines. Bushings and joints have also been replaced. The overdrive functions perfectly.

  • Interior condition:

The interior has been renovated and reconditioned to a high standard. The original upholstery was intact but faded, so the seats have been recolored, and new backing pieces have been added to the door panels. The steering wheel has been restored and painted, giving it a brand-new appearance.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has been professionally painted to perfection, using the original color. During the painting process, the car was completely disassembled, including the interior, front and rear windows, and the engine. The bumpers and moldings are in impeccable condition, although there are some minor flaws such as small pores on the fuel cap and door handles. It has new tires and beautiful wheels.

  • General condition:

A early model 142 Sport, renovated to a highly refined original condition, a car worth preserving and enjoying in the future.

Facts about the model

Volvo introduced the 140 Sport in 1966, simultaneously with the regular 140 models, which started selling as the 1967 model year. It was actually called the 144S, and unlike the standard 144, it featured a B18B engine with dual carburetors, providing 100 horsepower. The transmission was a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The top speed was around 165 km/h (103 mph), and it could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 12.7 seconds. Cars exported to the USA had a higher power output of 115 horsepower. The main exterior difference from the regular 144 models was the emblem on the front fenders, which read "Volvo 144 S" with a large "S" instead of just "Volvo 144." The initial price for a new 140 Sport in Sweden in early 1967 was 20,900 SEK.
