"A genuinely fun and unusual off-road vehicle that is surprisingly easy to drive."

Description

Volvo’s unusual PV Jeep was built in just 367 examples for the Swedish Army before being released into civilian use in the mid-1990s. This robust off-road vehicle is in good condition and performs well both on the road and in rough terrain. A full green canvas top, four complete spare wheels and four snow chains in their original military-issue bags are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine starts easily and runs quietly and smoothly. Both gearboxes operate without issue, offering high and low range as well as selectable four-wheel drive. The steering system and front suspension are also in good working order.

All other technical functions operate correctly apart from the brake lights, due to a faulty brake-light switch. The spare wheel mounted at the front is in poor condition, but four additional complete wheels in usable condition are included.

  • Interior condition

New, more comfortable front seats with headrests and lap belts have been fitted. The seats are also equipped with waterproof covers. The dashboard remains in its original condition and is in good order. Otherwise, the sparse interior is original.

  • Exterior condition

Military green paintwork with some areas touched up, but no unusual damage to the body panels. A slightly taller windscreen has been fitted on the passenger side. The vehicle is in good usable condition.

  • General condition

A practical off-road vehicle in good usable condition.

Facts about the model

Volvo’s Pvpjtgb 9031—also known as the L3304 and PV Jeep—was produced between 1963 and 1964 and was based on the better-known Valp. A total of 367 examples were built for the Swedish Army, which used the vehicle as a carrier for its 90 mm anti-tank gun.

As in the Valp, power comes from a conventional B18 engine connected to a reinforced M40 gearbox and a ZF transfer case. This provides both high and low range, as well as the option to disengage four-wheel drive. The axles are copies of the famously durable American Dana units.
