Description
Between 1996 and 2019, the car was displayed at Sparreholm Car Museum. The museum sold it at auction in 2019, when it was purchased by a car enthusiast who had the car repainted both inside and out. In 2025, it was acquired by the current owner, who completed the restoration.
The owner appears to have been somewhat rushed during the final stages, so a number of details require adjustment, including the chrome trim and bumpers.
According to consistent information, the car has never suffered from significant rust, meaning that no body panels have needed replacement. In addition to the full repaint, new parts worth more than SEK 40,000 were purchased from VP Autoparts, including interior trim, rubber seals and many other components.
The odometer shows 49,430 kilometres. We do not know the car’s total mileage since new. The owner is now selling the car due to a loss of interest.
The car comes with its owner’s manual and spare wheel. One ignition key is included. The final photograph in the gallery shows the car before restoration.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Equipped with Volvo’s classic B20 engine and a four-speed manual gearbox. The car starts easily and drives very well, feeling stable and composed on the road. During the test drive, we were surprised by how quick and strong the car felt.
The engine would benefit from an idle adjustment. The original ignition coil is defective, so a universal replacement has been fitted instead.
The gearbox has a precise and positive shift action, although first gear can only be engaged when the car is completely stationary. The reason for this is unknown, but it may be caused by a sticking first-gear synchromesh ring. -
Interior condition
The interior is in very good condition. The dashboard has new padding, while the door cards and carpets have also been replaced. A previous owner modified the transmission tunnel to accommodate a newer gearbox with a short gear lever.
The car is equipped with inertia-reel seat belts in the front and fixed seat belts in the rear. The Blaupunkt car radio is in working order. The seats and headlining are original and have not been replaced.
The steering wheel nut needs to be tightened slightly, as this appears to have been overlooked during the restoration. -
Exterior condition
The car was repainted three to four years ago. The paintwork has been carried out to a good standard, with even and well-aligned panel gaps.
The boot lid has caused us some difficulty. An excessively thick rubber seal has been fitted, meaning that a disproportionate amount of force is required to close it. After opening the boot, we did not feel comfortable applying enough force to shut it again. Please see the video. The buyer will need to investigate whether the seal can be trimmed down or replaced with a different type, as the original seal is no longer in production.
New stainless-steel bumpers have been fitted, although they require further adjustment. The car also has new whitewall tyres. The buyer will need to wash off the blue protective coating to reveal the white sidewalls.
The narrow upper brightwork strips on the doors, directly below the windows, have been fitted using incorrect clips and may therefore come loose. There are also three small holes on each rear wing from previously fitted side marker lights. -
General condition
A restored final-year Volvo Amazon. Considerable sums have been invested in the car, although it requires a few hours of work to correct some minor fitting errors made during reassembly.
